I'm not sure that I understand the question. The picture and the web site show it as a pedal. It also does not refer to delay, only reverb. Are you asking about some other unit?

I want delay and reverb in one piece of equip. Will that be a pedal or rack? Looks like Lee may have the answer w/ the Digitech RP 150 150. Greg

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned-----what this has, over and above other units that I use or have used (Boss, Grail) is tone control and dwell. I use the Pod XT a lot and have these parameters available but really miss them on the other pedals (and on combo amps too). I'm not really in the market but I can't help but drool at the sight & sound of cool new gear.

Jon is absolutely right. I just bought one from Steve's music Center off of Rt.17, and it's a fantastic stomp box for reverb. Need to tweak it a little with knobs to fool around, but it's pretty straight forward and easy to nail it, especially on the fly.

Thanks, Brad !! Now, that's said, how do you guys set the knobs for steel? At the moment, I'm playing around with "Hall" setting, but I'm sure there are much more convincing settings.

I'm liking a bunch of the settings, but currently I'm really digging the plate and hall settings, both with the decay knob a little long, like about 1 or 2 o'clock, and the tone knob (they call it "liveliness") backed off of noon a hair at about 11 o'clock. But there are a lot of cool ways to set it.

Ah, that's about how I'm settling in.
This unit is so cool that, "Level"( more like "Mix", I think.) can be backed a little with more "decay" and it gives you a very useful effect. or you can have short decay setting but give the "Level" up, it gives you another useful sound.

HOWEVER!! Like anything else, we shall not forget about the ease of RV-3 !! One day, someone with a good hearted company will introduce this quality of reverb with delay in one tiny stomp box...Like good old days..

Can anyone tell me if the new Digitech RV-7 is the same size as a Boss pedal?

I would consider replacing my Boss reverb with the new Digitech, but the new pedal would have to be the same size or smaller than the Boss pedal it is replacing.

I answered my own question. the Digitech appears to be slightly larger than the Boss. (At least according to the online manual).

Dimensions - 5.25 ”(L) x 3.5”(W) x 2.15 ”(H)

I received my RV-7 and am very pleased. I would have to go along with Brad's comments on this item. To my ears it sounds great and does not thin out your high end like some other units.

I agree Brad - This pedal is AWESOME. We have a relationship with digitech in the ORB, and Paul is a great guy to deal with. They also have a couple overdrive pedals that are killer for slide guitar stuff on steel. My favorite is the Tube Overdrive. All of the "Hardwire" pedals are the best I've used.

What is "Dwell" with respect to reverb?

Man, I wish more reverb units came with a "pre-deley" knob.
I think this is like the most important thing about reverb since getting a Lexicon LXP-1 a few years back. A little time between the actual picked note and the onset of reverb makes a big diff.

I saw this Digi RV-7 pedal in a shop today... just looking so far!

off hand, I think that "dwell" in the classic reverb units is the control of the level sent to the springs. I think more dwell means more actual drive to the springs creating more amplitude in the springs themselves and in turn getting a longer decay time or "dwell". I'd have to go look at the circuit again, but at 1am on a friday nite, that's what my fuzzy memory tells me.

Agreed on the pre-delay thing. What's really fascinating with pre-delay is that when it's short, like under 35 milliseconds, the reverb sounds attached or connected to the source signal making it sound far away. But longer than 35ms begins to detach the reverb from the source and that lets you get away with a lot of reverb without making it sound far away. You can make something real wet yet still sound very near or up-front.

I just bought one to use with my Telecaster. I like the Lexicon verbs but the Lexicon units are all line level units. This pedal provides the Lexicon verbs and is instrument level.

I will probably never use it with steel as I use a POD XT with the steel. However the RV7 verbs are much better than the POD XT.

I'll have to see if I can work this into my computer based recording. Sonar 8 Producer includes some Lexicon reverbs but they suck compared to the RV7's.
