Florida Steel Guitar Club Show "A Success"

The 1st Anniversary Show was an overwhelming success! We couldn't have asked for a better response, both from the club members and audience. All the pickers did a 1st class job on their sets.

Performers:
John King, Roy Ayres, Jack Dougherty, Bob Schorell, Austin Preston, Jack Stoner, Lou Rochelle, Don Sulesky, Bud Vanderberg, Earl Williams.

This looks like it may become an annual affair. Catfish Johnny, who provides the facility, is already looking forward to next year.

Thank you to everyone that contributed to the show.

Don is right. A lot of good "pickin" there. All of the players were good, but I got the most enjoyment out of Jack Stoner's Thumb-Style medley without accompaniment, Austin Preston's beautiful and flawless renditions of a number of Gospel songs, and watching Earl Williams' left foot dancing with lightening speed across those C6 pedals.

Hey, guys, I have an idea! Let's do it again next year.

I know the show was a good'un, especially with Roy Ayers on the program. Wish I was close enough to come hear the next one.

Roy e mailed me and told me he received a standing ovation after his final song..

He played the "Star Spangled Banner". That Roy
will do anything for a round of applause

You'll not hear a better rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" than Roy's. It was very beautiful and inspiring.

All of the performers in the show were outstanding and we got to hear a wide range of styles and songs.

Thanks very much to all the performers and the folks who made the show happen.

Jack Stoner and Don Sulesky did most of the work from the concept to contacting the players to handling the numerous details.

I didnt mean to discredit Roy with the comments I posted,,It was that Roy himself sent me a wordpad of the songs he played and added,,,This is how I get a Standing Ovation.

And he added a

..I meant no harm or to ridicule Roy, I think too much of him,I hope you understand,,I will e mail you his message to me if you wish...I think much of Roy and all of you guys as well.

Jody,
I didn't mean to detract from Roy's humor, nor degrade your comment.

Roy made the same announcement at the end of his program and it was well received and appreciated by all in the audience.

So the humor of the "standing ovation"
and the beauty of the music combined with a patriotic feeling resulted in a very nice and unusual experience.

Hi Jody,
No harm done.
Roy did a very nice rendition of the song.

All the players were superb and we had a good mix of styles and songs to round out the show.
It's great to have so many talented steel players in our area of Florida.

Hello Everyone! Just wanted to add my "two cents worth". My family and I enjoyed the show very much. Every one was very friendly and I met some great pickers. It was an honor to be included in the list of players Saturday.
Roy, I really appreciate your post and I enjoyed your set as well. When you were introduced and your history in Louisville was mentioned, I couldn't help but feel just a little proud of our old stompin' grounds.
Jack, Don, Blake and everyone else involved, Thanks again for putting a Great show together and thanks for inviting me to be a part of it.

I had to work really late a couple of nights before the show so I was really late leaving Miami. My girlfriend and I got there at about 6:00 and we were pretty heart broken when after less than half an hour the official show was over. Well we gave it our best shot. Earl Williams sounded great (the last set) I especially liked the upbeat western swing style he played in. I was so happy that three of the guys jammed for a while when it was over. I was able to thank Bob Schorell and compliment him on his subtle and artistic playing (of course the other two sounded super too). It was a shame I missed so much, but I'm still glad we went.
