Who is playing Ft. Worth

Post by Jerry Grant »

Hi Folks,
I will be in Ft. Worth Jan 11th - 15th. Can anyone tell me where I might go, in the close area so I don't get lost, to hear some steel?? I'll be staying downtown at the Hilton but have transportation.
Thanks a Lot,
Jerry Grant

+1 on Pearl's.

But I don't think we are supposed to call it the Fat Stock show any more.

Wow, Jerry! On January 10th, at the Hilton, I'll be playing a show with Michael Martin Murphey and the Rio Grande Band, along with Red Steagall and his band. Too bad it'll be a day before you arrive. But there's tons of stuff to do at the Stockyards. Fort Worth is the swingin'est city in TX, no lie. I love it there.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Hey Jason, up until a few years ago, it was called "The Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show". I know the PC Police dropped "Fat", but I rarely do what I'm supposed to :):) It is a great time to be around Ft. Worth..

Your post mentioned you will be here (Ft. Wth area) on the 11th, (Sunday) IF, that is not the date when Pearls has their Western Swing Sunday, You can come see us (The Coachmen) at the Stagecoach Ballroom (Belknap and Sylvania, East of Downtown Fort Worth)every Sunday 5pm to 10pm. We don't have a steel in the band, however we never know when one will drop in and set in. In the past we've had Johnny Cox, Joan Cox, Ron Stafford, Corky Owens, and other steel players come in and set up. Even without a steel in the band, we play some great real country music.
I'll state here that it IS NOT THE BANDS CALL TO NOT HAVE A STEEL IN THE BAND. Every one of the six piece BAND MEMBERS Love STEEL GUITAR!!!
a $ thing ?????

However, Pearls has a western swing sunday once a month and THEY'LL have a steel or, two, or three!

Thanks a lot guys. I don't get up there very often so I want to make the most of my evenings.
I looked at Pearl's schedule and it says they are closed on Sunday, 1/11, so now I have an alternate.
Again, my thaks,

Jerry, If you can get by the Stagecoach on the 11th, be sure to come introduce yourself to me (Electric guitar player, ...well, guitar owner anyway.) I'd be glad to meet you. AND, JUNIOR KNIGHT, I wish you would come by and set in with us some Sunday. I know it's hard to do when you spend the weekend out on the road with Jody Nix, but we'll make a clean spot for you, and I'll even help you carry your stuff in. Can't beat a deal like that!

When I first started playing steel guitar I would fly to Ft Worth and take some lessons at Steve Lambs Steel City Music in White Settlement. He turned me on to guys like Jr Knight, Gary Carpenter, Ted Solesky and others. I remember we'd go to the Stockyards area at night where I'd sit and dream listening to Gary Hogue playing at Filthy & McNastys with I think a great Bass player named Reggie Brown. There were players all over the place in those days from the Stock Exchange to the Pickin Parlor to the White Elephant and more. What a really nice way to start out playing steel guitar, being introduced to all these great players and taking lessons here and there from them. The Stockyards is a really cool area!

I just wanted to say that the author of this thread came by and visited, Introduced himself, and we all sure enjoyed meeting him.

Jerry, it was a pleasure to meet you. Thanks for checking out the Country Music scene out in Fort Worth. I think it's great that forum brothers come say howdy when they're in town.
