Who is this steel player?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pg1csk_PN0&NR=1
Could it be JayDee Maness? Hmmmm.
Who ever it is, this is my kind of music. Not only one of the greatest country hits ever recorded but it has one of the world's greatest writers AND one of the world's greatest performers singing together.
Folks it doth not get any better than this.

On page four of the text comments someone says it's
Jack ''Curly"" Evans on Steel. His jaw and smile bear a vague resemblance to Buddy Emmons.

Seems like this video would have been a bit before JayDee's time. A really wild guess on the fiddle player would be either Shorty Lavender, or Tommy Jackson. |

Thanks folks.
I didn't really believe it was JayDee because of his age, but it looked like him to me in certain shots.
Also not to be contradictory, I see no resemblance between the steel player and Buddy Emmons. But "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"
I do feel there is quite a similarity between the fiddle player and Roger Miller, but I see none between him and Tommy Jackson. But again....
In any case, it is a fantastic rendition of a song made famous by Ray Price, and having the writer of the song sing back up with him. How can one top that? Wow!
Thanks again

This here clip shows the band; it's Jack Evins on steel, Shorty Lavender fiddle, Sammy Pruett ld gtr, Roger Miller rhthm gtr, bass player and drummer remain unidentfied to me. And this was cut either -57 or -58 in Nashville, Jay Dee Maness was about 13 yrs old and in CA at the time
