I just wrote my first steel tab. It is Silent Night for C6 non-pedal. Please let me know if you have any of you more experienced players have any suggestions for improvement.

Kirk, that's a good start.

It's an excellent presentation, but there are a couple of mistakes in your bass line. The second pair of notes in the first staff - does that really sound right when you play it? I think you need a C for the lower note instead of the D. You can play that on an open second string, or on the 8th fret on the 5th string (good chance to practice reverse slants).

Also, in the second measure on the second staff, you need a C again for the lower note. You can do that with a 6-5 slant on the second and third strings. Or - try sliding down from the 5th fret on the first string to the second fret and play the open second string.

Thanks for your reply, Steve!

I think both of your suggestions are solid improvements -- on both of those, I was trying to do the Don Helms thing without slants because I've only been playing a year and my slants can still be a little sloppy (He's one of my favorite steel players too). Anyway, thanks a lot for the improvements!
