Sound Tracks to Play Steel With

I'm looking for some CD soundtracks that do not have steel on them, that I can play with "the band." Anyone have a reccomendation?

You might want to check out Jeff Newman's stuff (http://www.jeffran.com).

He has a couple of different tracks available. "Just Jammin'", no steel, you provide all the steel work. And "Honky Tonk Heroes", great stuff you can spend hours learning new licks to.

Thanks for the heads up Jon. Looks like I'll have to order one of the Dance Hall CDs. If your looking for something more in the Blues, R&B, Rock genre, check out "Band In The Pocket." The one I have (#2 Blues) is all backing tracks, no vocals. There are two cuts Cajun Cookin' and Gospel Truth, that are "country" type changes, then the rest are Blues/Rock type cuts. Very good production, real instruments. Comes with a booklet that has all the chord changes. I like it when I feel like Rattlin' the Windows! LOL Sounds good cranked up! I got mine at a Guitar Center. I think they are available on Ebay as well.

Ric, go to www.russandlaney.com, this is the best deal I have seen for what you are looking for, ten cd's where Laney does a verse with steel and the same with no steel where you do the intro, back up and turn around, you won't go wrong with this deal.

I buy a lot of Karaoke tracks on I-tunes to play along with. Some of the Country Karaoke's may have steel on them, but they would still be great to practice with. I usually buy Jazz or Pop tracks, so they have no steel on them.

Buddy's Swing Series back up tracks are a lot of fun too
Jimp Loessberg has some good ones as well

I gotta put in a mention for Bobbe Seymour's tracks. They are the taken right off of his albums and sound GREAT. All the musicians are top professional studio cats and each track is the same mix you'll hear on Bobbe's CDs...which is excellent!

Take a look at David Hartley's "Amarillo Country Music Duo". He has exact back up tracks available for his "You Tube" performances (around 60 songs). Also tab for a few. Real nice guy to deal with.

There are a lot of Karaoke records available. They have backing but no vocal. You can play along, adding a steel solo.

Just got my "Texas Dance Hall Classics" CD from Steve Alcott. Excellent! Great production. I got Vol 3, we do many of those songs in the band I'm in. Now I don't need the rest of them to really work on the songs! LOL
I got both the vocal & non-vocal CD. Its cool to have a singer and then have the solo & fills open to play in! I would highly recommend! Thanks Steve and Jon for the heads up on this thread.
