Wiz, I need your help. Here is my problem.
When I go to update my AVG 8.0.176 after it failed to do an automatic update, it returns an error saying that there is a missing .bin file.
I went on the AVG forum and it turns out that a lot of people have the same problem. One person uninstalled/re-installed AVG and that solved it for that user.
Another user said it was an AVG problem and that AVG would have to resolve it internally.

In the meantime, can I do anything to acquire this missing bin file? Should this be a cause for concern?

What can you recommend?
Thanks Wiz.

Bent;
If this was caused by a bad update you can rest assured that AVG is aware of it and will push out new updates as soon as possible. But, if you are now unable to obtain updates you will have to manually download the current version and over-install it, using the Repair option, then reboot.

If this disables you ability to receive automatic definition or program updates it is a critical flaw and must be fixed manually! The program will become next to useless without daily updates.

You might try running a System Restore to a time prior to the bad update.

Wiz, how can THIS be...
I hadn't done anything yet. I thought before I download and reinstall Firefox as per your instructions, I would try the update once more...and it worked!
How do you figure that one??

Here is the correct explanation of why the update worked the last time you tried it and the error was not to be seen:

Yes, of course, Wiz. How could I be so silly as to forget that. Laughing

This worked for me as well (so far - I just did it a short time ago). Manual updates didn't help. I did download the most recent version available.

I have 5 PCs on a home network running AVG Free and only one had the problem, so I wouldn't think it was caused by a bad update.

I had the same problem a few months ago and found out there was a virus on my machine. Did a scan and updated and no more problems as yet. Eddie
