For those times when I have to leave my guitar in the truck a little longer than I'm comfortable with....Whoa!

I use a line of aircraft cable to secure it to the cargo rings in the truck bed. (It's also inside a camper shell w/curtains on all windows.) Very Happy

One click with some bolt cutters and she is gone!

Nice idea though for the crack heads who are just looking for a quick grab.

Good point, Jim. Also, that gives them more incentive to steal the whole truck, and worry about the lock sometime later. A thief would think..."If it's strapped down with a padlock, it MUST be something pretty valuable". Unfortunately, padlocks are only good at frustrating honest people. They do little or nothing to stop crooks.

A good tire iron will break most any padlock in about 3 seconds.

Get on Youtube and take a look at lock picking. It's shocking how fast you can pick a combination lock using nothing more than a cut out piece of a tin can cut in the shape of the letter "M".

I have had a steel guitar stolen out of my truck....
I know first hand of ALL of the risks involved.

I'm not even remotely concerned about the "guy walking around with a set of bolt cutters"....give me a break.

Same goes with the lock pickers.....

And stealing the whole truck in order to get what's in a case they can't even see in the first place....kind of a stretch on that scenario!

A turd could land on your head from the flying cow with about the same odds!

Every piece of equipment I have has an eye-bolt that the aircraft cable goes through, and is covered by moving blankets in a secured shell with all the curtains drawn.

This is just to insure a little more protection and piece of mind while I walk in to the resorts to see what room I'm in, before loading in....and similar situations.

Don't know of a whole lot of thieves that risk breaking into a vehicle when they can't see what it is that may be worth stealing. And, when met with any resistance will hang around to see if they can pick a lock, or just happen to have a pair of bolt cutters in their shorts.....which by the way won't cut through my aircraft cable. Of course if it's the guy with the specialty cutters, I'm sure he's looking at a great catch when he tells his fence he's got a steel guitar! And no....I don't use a Master lock, I've got the real McCoys....

Oh, and my background in security systems, etc. figures in to my equation also.

I do know that if a thief wants something bad enough, they're gonna get it....but they'll be in for a surprise if they think they're gonna grab my stuff and run.

I once heard of an automobile anti-theft system that sealed the windows closed, locked the doors and fired tear gas into the car's interior. I want that!

Most thieves want something fast and easy. This is a good idea. Keeping it out sight will do a lot for a deterant. If they want it bad enough, they will get it. Put a radio tracking device in the case--go find them and prosecute 'em, if you want to get tricky.

In my experience most thieves are lazy idiots. Anything you can do to make things confusing or more work helps quite a bit.
