Lonnie, thank you for getting this opportunity started, it looks like all we need is for you to coordinate the project and tell us what to do. We should be able to provide everything he needs in the way of guitar, amp and chords, picks, and bar if needed. Paul offers an amp, Cliff and/or Al willing to donate a guitar, Jerry offering a new guitar at cost, Dwight, a bargain in a guitar offer and cash offered by several others!! I too, can use PayPal.

Guys I don’t have enough words that can express my gratitude for your generosity. I’ve decided to take Jerry Knapper’s offer on the guitar and Paul Foster’s offer on the practice amp. I had no Idea that so many would be willing to help. He‘s a young soldier and loves Steel. It kind of got to me and in my weird way of thinking thought that if I could get him a lap steel to play gospel songs on, He’ll make it back home safe. Anyone wishing to make a donation toward the guitar Jerry is making send it to Jerry or e-mail him for contact info. When he gets the equipment, I will post pictures and if I can figure it out, a sample video of his playing. Again my soul is very happy about this. Thank you all so very much.

Hello Jerry,
I can kick in $25. I will have it in the mail to you tomorrow. If it were a little warmer I would jump on the old iron horse and hand deliver it to you as you're only 190 miles away. That would be a good little day ride but it's a little chilly for that.
Regards,
Richard Parks

I think we are about there
Hey guys. I have not seen anything in the mail yet, but I think we have the guitar about covered in pledges. Lonnie, did you want it in a hard case? I would prefer that, but as I said earlier the cases are quite a bit larger for shipping. Not that this is a concern for shipping, but I was thinking about him carrying it to Iraq. Whichever way is best. I should have the guitar ready soon and will post a picture.

Lonnie, I just thought of a concern. Paul has made a generous offer of a small practice amp but it just occurred to me that the electrical service in Iraq might not be right for a USA amp. Can we somehow find out about that? We might need to get a battery operated amp of some sort. We need to know that whatever we give him will work in Iraq.

That's good information Ron.
I am sure adaptions will be made for the amp. We could chase up a battery operated amp, but it would still need to be re-charged at some time and an adaptable adaptor would then be needed.

Guitar is finished
I have it finished. The guitar has been tested and in the case. (Made by Gene Fields) I will get it shipped off the first of next week to Lonnie.
Since this picture was taken I changed the volume pot to a better quality one from Fender. It sounds and operates very nicely. Considering it will be in Iraq, I also put 4 tiny screws in the fretboard to hold it in place. I usually glue them, but with the heat there I thought the screws along with the gluing would help. It is tuned to an E6th and I included an extra set of E13th strings.

My donation might take a week or more to get there from here, but it is in the mail.
