Topic: return springs? |

Hey Guys,
On an all-pull, do the return springs need replacing periodically or at all? Do you determine the change by the way the guitar plays, or is it a good idea to change at different intervals, Do you just not change them unless there is a problem?

Are you talking about the "drop" return springs on the changer? On most all pull's these are adjustable but only rarely need any adjustments and only if there is a problem with "lift off". On the ones that do not have adjustable drop return springs they only need replacing or possibly cut off a loop (shorten it) if there is a problem with "lift off" on a string.
Otherwise there is no need to mess with them. Mostly the old "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applies to these springs. |

| Jack is right, you usually don't worry about the springs unless they will not return the fingers to the stop. Cutting off coils to salvage weak springs can be done, but it changes the feel of the pedal, sometimes drastically. When a spring is too weak, the best course of action is usually to replace it with a new one. Likewise, when springs are too strong (causing excess pedal effort and/or activation problems), they can be stretched, or "opened" a little. Still, the best course of action is to replace them with a lighter spring. |
