| Danny over at Steel Guitar Nashville mentioned he had been using an MXR Carbon Copy analog delay unit. I picked one up today to try and it is a great unit for 150.00 street price at Sam Ash or Guitar Center. Very warm and wide but clear. If you're not happy with your delay setup you may give it a look... |

I've had the MXR delay for about a week, and I'm lovin'it. It replaced a Boss DD3 fro me too-better bypass, warmer and simpler. It will eat a battery within an hour, however.

I would never want to use a battery in any delay pedal. They are power hogs.

I had one of these a few months ago, and after a few gigs the modulation became audible in bypass mode. Just a warbly swish coming through the signal. With the luck I've been having with gear lately, I just brought it back and didn't bother getting another one. That's not to say there's quality issues. I just didn't really need another delay anyway.

A quick scan of the MXR cc's reviews on other forums seems to corroborate Chris' story. Out of the box, they seem to be hit and miss. Hope mine keeps hitting.

I loved the sound of mine till "POP" in mid song, then totally dead. Trying one of the new Digitech Hardwire series now.

MXR used to hand wire their pedals. Now it's all surface mount, super cheapo construction methods with rock bottom parts, but at nearly boutique prices. Real good designs, sketchy implementation.

at $149 the carbon copy is THE least expensive analog delay I am aware of. Ive never had any mxr pedal poop out on me, but I certainly have had some EH pedals go bonkers or have their tiny little switches broken off...not to mention their absurdly large and odd sized boxes.
I dont know...my impression of mxr and their latest offerings has been quite good. The custom shop pedals for example. I wish all pedals were still handwired, didnt have printed boards, and especially didnt mount their jacks to the boards, but thats modern life i guess. we traded all that for leds, dc power jacks, and cheap outsourced labor I guess |
