Howdy Steel Guitar Forum members--
Here's an announcement to put this on your calendar if you're in the Southern California area, or coming in for the NAMM show in January:
Saturday, January 17th, 2009--it's "Deke's Guitar Geek Festival #6"
at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel Ballroom, 1700 S. Harbor Blvd., Anaheim, CA
This is a guitar festival that appeals to all types of folks, but we never forget the steel guitar! In years past we've had Herb Remington, Jeremy Wakefield, Dave Berzansky and this year is no different.
You will NOT want to miss the "Rickenbacker Bakelite Band" at this years festival. It's a once-in-a-lifetime assembly of 1930's and 1940's Rickenbacker bakelite instruments all played live on stage, with some of the hottest jazz, blues and western swing musicians around.
If you can believe this, we will have Dave "D.B." Berzansky (Hacienda Brothers) and Pat Quilter (of QSC amps fame) on bakelite lap steels....myself and T.K. Smith on round-neck Bakelite electric Spanish guitars....Trent Ruane on round-neck TENOR guitar, dixieland jazz legend John Reynolds on round-neck PLECTRUM guitar, 84-year old uke legend Travis Harrelson playing his Rickenbacker aluminum electric ukelele...and the bass player Wally Hersom will be playing his 1930's Rickenbacker aluminum electric "stick" bass!
You won't be seeing this again anytime soon. Trust me.
The headliners for this year's festival are Buddy Holly's original Crickets. There will be lots of other madness, the fest goes on from 4 pm until midnight!
More info and tickets available at www.guitargeekfestival.com
Hope to see you there!
Best,
Deke |

HELLO DEKE,
There are no on-line room reservations available at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel. Is the hotel booked up?

I believe they still have some rooms left. You may want to call them. If you say you're with the NAMM show they will probably be much nicer! ha ha |

Hey Deke - slightly off subject - I read the article in Vintage Guitar recently about Dave Berzansky (with a quote from you), and he was saying that he has been staying really busy musically, even though the Hacienda Brothers are no more.
Since Dave rarely posts here, can you enlighten us as to what he has been up to?
I also heard that he recently married. _________________ Mark |

Hi you all--
I hope to see some of you this Saturday night at the Guitar Geek Festival!
www.guitargeekfestival.com
Dave Berzansky will be there playing his bakelite lap steel, as well as Pat Quilter and Chas Smith (on 10-string bakelite!) as part of the "Rickenbacker Bakelite Band"--an orchestra made up of 1930's Rickenbacker Bakelite instruments!
You can still get rooms at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel, but they require a 4-day stay (for the NAMM weekend). Try hotwire.com, I had to book a room down the street but there are still plenty of cheap (under $100) rooms to be had a mile or two from the event.
Hope to see you there!
