Back in the sixties I knew a steel player named Don Robinson. Don had worked mainly at the Crow's Nest in Oxnard, California but lived in Ventura. I remember trading a Fender Bassman piggy back amp to him for a Fender 400 steel at one point.

Don was a very accomplished C6th player and usually used a Fender 2000 double ten. The last time I ever talked to him, he was getting a ZB single neck which he was having set up as a Universal. He helped me set up my Fender 400. I wanted one "chromatic" string on it, the F# on the outside but he convinced me to put the G# on the outside and the F# at the second slot because as he stated "that's where it's supposed to be". I don't know how he had his E9th set up but I assume he had it like that.

Does anyone remember Don or know he's still alive, still playing, or any other info about him. A great player for sure...........JH in Va.

I agree with you Jerry, the F# should have been on the far outside. I did not know or hear of Don but I knew a lot of musicians who played at the Crows Nest.
