After 60 years of playing this monster I've witnessed several players I would call "Professional". Last night I had the privilege of attending a Jody Nix performance here in this one half horse town. I don't believe I've ever heard a better steel performance, under some darn difficult conditions, as was done by one Junior Knight. Junior was hired by Jody to fill the shoes of another Pro, Johnny Cox, and made his first appearance at Pearl's in Fort Worth Friday night. Both of these shows was done without one minute's rehearsal. Sure, there were some minor glitches, as would be the case with any player, but Jr's professionalism just wouldn't let that hinder his determination. Great job man. (BTW Junior played both nights of Swing on his SD10 Rains tuned to E9--not the easiest thing to do. Betcha' the Bb6 Uni comes out pretty quick Wink )

As to the band that Nix has together now, one of the best rhythm sections ever with Dixie Hankins on Drums and brother Larry Nix on bass. All that topped off by twin fiddles in Robert Weeks and Jody himself. Can't beat twin gourds and a steel for certain. Plus the fact Jody's singing seems to get better each time I hear him.

I'm so glad Jody's keeping the western swing music going strong in this country. When everyone was jumping ship to go to other genres of music, Jody and family stayed the course and because of folks like him, Mata, Flores, AATW and many others we still have this music going great guns. BTW Jody and the gang have a new CD out and you can grab it on http://jodynix.com I believe.

Great job Junior.

Edited to add: Also had the pleasure of meeting fellow forumite Josh Haislip, playing here in town with Guy Will Zant. Didn't get the chance to hear him play, but hope to in the near future. Good to meet you Josh.
