Here I was, in this tiny country I hadn't even heard of a year ago, and I hear somebody say "You look like you're from Texas!" I was a little surprised, it's been a while since I've had that much English spoke at me...
Thanks for the kind words, CB. It was a hoot getting to meet you & David, and we owe b0b a big thanks for making it possible.
If we could have gotten you to join David onstage with us, I'd have gone out front and cut a rug to the music LOL!
And you're right about Ricky Araiza---I've seen that guy shine in jazz, country, Tejano, Spanish music, live and in the studio.
I just hope we have more time to visit & jam next time, especially if David brings the FrankenBro

Hey Emmet, David here.
I saw a guy hauling a roadcase that looked real steel to me, so I thought I would get your attention with a big ole "TEXaasss".
Most likely delivered in a half Texas half New Hampshire accent no doubt.
I had a fun time at your show, and meeting you, Rick and Jeff too. Thanks for the invite to sit-in on mandolin, it was unexpected, and fun.
You yourself kept the Texas Steel Torch burnin high and bright, once we clubed the soundman into giving you some stage monitor return level comensurate with everything else up there.
I was a bit forceful, but I had good reason too. We came to hear you, if you can't yourself, you can' play well, and I ain't gonna sit by and let THAT happen!
Yeah CB would'a been cool on your GFI I am sure. Not a Sho-Bud, but a real nice unit. Crowbear was in listening mode, and you gave him something good to listen too.
I heard the sound check and I caught that studio cat Rick's in between song licks and went hhmmm INTERESTING, this ain't just some country picker ( nothin' against country pickers), but an all around player, with it all on the ball.
Gotta get you and Rick down Nimes way and do a studio cut or two with Maison Dixon.
I'll cook you up a storm too.
The " Frankenbro" is coming a long, it will be out at the St Chartier luthier and ancient musique festival the 5 days before the 14th July here. It should raise a few eyebrows. It got your attention!
PS. Give our best to the lil' woman, nice meeting her also.[This message was edited by CrowBear Schmitt on 03 July 2003 at 04:25 PM.] [This message was edited by CrowBear Schmitt on 03 July 2003 at 04:26 PM.] |

Well John, the Frankenbrau is indeed an Xcellent German Brew
but The FrankenBro, mon ami, eez someting else !
David Donald, Dusty, DD has constructed himself the Bohemian's Steel
it's a 10 stringer sittin pretty on top of it's amp.
kinda like a Ghetto Blaster that's long enough for them 24 frets, tuning head and bridge
it runs on a rechargeable battery and AC/DC
David has still some mods to do on it but this unit is a Winner.
so if you liked bein asked all the time what is that thing you're playin, be sure to be the first in your hood to have a FrakenBro
Great for Buskin'
Well, David i hope you don't mind me lettin' the cat outta the bag

Ah well my Cat is out on the range.
I wanted a 10 string busking machine, that might even double as a portable mini PA.
I was planning on building several ideas of resonator 10 string E13 lapsteels and this box just fell in my hands and was a useable size.
I like any tool to do at least 2 jobs for me.
At the moment is a D6 tuning, because I had some not so old C6 strings from the shobud at hand, with the bottom 4 strings like a dobro bluegrass tuning.
It is 60 watts stereo and has a bit of dobro sound to it. Good for about 6-7 hours playing time on a charge.
I am waiting on a fretboard from Jerry Roller ( Thanks JR) and have some ideas for different resonators still.
I will post a pic when I have it properly tricked out.
I actually was thinking mor of
" 10 string StreetBro " for a name. But Emmet seems to have his own idea!
It is like nothing I have seen, nor anyone else who has viewed it. |

David, you out-"McGuyver"-ed me with the FrankenBro---my meager "Catalonian Dobrito" pales by comparison

...and then there were the plans for the "BucketBro", made with a No. 3 washtub...maybe a hinge could be attached to one end of the neck so it could be flipped upright and the instrument could double as a bass...this is gettin' outta hand...

Piece o' cake, guys. I lived in the Pyranees back in February...I figure Antarctica is probably pretty mild by comparison. |
