I did as I was told on how to get rid of Winamp as the default player.

It still comes up FIRST when I put in a CD.

I followed all the directions.

NOT WORKING.

I like Winamp, and do not wish to completely get rid of it.

What now?

Thanks all...

Chipper

Chip, I had the same trouble , even though I used to like Winamp. But it took over my computer in ways I didnt like, so I just got rid of it and never missed it since....al Cool

What's goin' on? Default settings were easy, in the past. Why are things so damn buggered with Vista? or whatever's goin' on?

I'm followin' everyone's advice here.

It ain't workin'!!!

I've done this and that and rebooted a half dozen times. But there she is, WINAMP.

I just did it again, before I let this post go.

Let's see

Thanks Al, for your input.

Dig this - I'm listening to one of my Cds via Winamp - but nothing has appeared on my desktop for audio/whatever tweaking.

It's like a phantom program. But not when I start things up in the beginning.

I'm not gonna wait around for all of our experts to chime in. I'll just disable it - take it out from PROGRAMS & FEATURES (Vista).

There's an easier way, but it ain't workin' for me.

Once again, a simple thing, but not so, and a major pain.

Chip-That was the only way I could get rid of it, just disable it and clean it out of your computer hard drive. I have WMP and other programs to play my CDs, I dont need winamp. Time has passed it by....al

Chip, try going to my computer/then right click on your CD drive and go to properties then in properties click on the "autoplay" tab and you'll see where you can choose which program to open when you play a Cd,mp3 etc.

Thanks Andy.

I'm running Vista Home Premium and I followed your directives, but the TABS that came up in PROPERTIES were:
1.General
2.Hardware
3.Sharing
4.Customize
5.Recording

I'm all set now.

I simply got rid of Winamp. All I care about is sound. Even though WMP had better sound and fidelity, Winamp was easier to use. I hated, and still do, the way WMP wants to load every friggin audio file you have on your PC into it's Library. It's too much - it's for idiot kids. Sorry, idiot kids.

But those were my only choices at the time, until I finally got AudigySE up and running.

So I guess I'm a happy campamigo now.

Thanks guy-ohs...

Chip-In XP on my computer, in WMP there is an option to Add or not to your library. I leave it of unless I want to keep something special to me, then I add it to the library Manually.
Glad you are a happy camper now....al.SmileSmile Cool Cool

Thanks Al,

I've checked off that option in the past - to NOT auto add files into the library - but it seems to reverse itself
at times.

Maybe it's me. I'm sure it is.
