Who is making a reso strap that has a wide shoulder/padded area but a thinner strap end going down to the strap button on the body of the guitar?
My current strap is a Webb 2" Dobro. I love the quick release feature at the headstock, but it is just too wide and rubs on my right arm where I tuck it under the strap. I think the fact that its canvas for that portion of the strap is a detriment too, its not very flexible or forgiving to arm motion.
I had a cheaper golden gate strap that was leather and thin but the way they designed the headstock attachment left a lot to be desired. Very clunky. _________________ https://www.facebook.com/ggefell/ |

Greg, I had heard for years about the Bobby Poff straps, how great and comfortable they are, etc. But I just could NOT bring myself to pay $225 for a STRAP... I was using Webbs also and found them less than perfectly comfortable. I finally broke down and got a Poff, just wish I had done it much sooner.
It's thinner, (not real thin) at the guitar body end, but he puts a swivel connector in just exactly the right place, it's very comfortable on the arm, but even more important, absolutely rock solid stable. Feels like you're playing with the reso on a table when standing up, I'm not kidding.
Really fantastic strap, and worth (almost!) the price. |

Greg:
I found a banjo strap with nice shoulder padding and very thin leather at the ends, and attached it to the slotted headstock using one of these:

It loops around the headstock and disconnects easily when you don't want to use it. Recommended.

Thanks Blake - that's an option I hadn't considered.
Jonathon - do you have a Martin Gross strap? I like the quick release and the arm cutout. I wonder how long it takes to get one made/shipped from the EU?
For $115 investment, I'd like to hear from someone who has one. _________________ https://www.facebook.com/ggefell/ |

I certainly can understand the financial shell-shocked scenario of buying a Bobby Poff strap, but once you have had one for a bit, it reminds you of that perfectly formed baseball glove and how it made you a better ballplayer when you were younger.
When I'm playing standing up with my Poff strap, I'm not even thinking about it - allow me to use another sports analogy - I'm an avid cyclist, and one of the things said about a well designed road racing bike that fits you perfectly when you are out on a country road is that "the bike disappears beneath you."
I think that analogy works for the Poff strap. _________________ Mark |

I have a Martin Gross strap as well as a Poff.
The Martin Gross strap has the narrow end for the pickin hand and is very well made. Martin is a great guy to know and deal with and it normally takes him a couple weeks to get a strap to you. You can contact him via his website www.martingross.com and see pics of his straps........he will build what you want.
Bobby Poff's straps are also wonderful straps.

Just received my Poff strap for one of my Beard Odysseys. Simply the best made. I'll never use anything else. Ordering a second one. It's worth twice the price. |

I too love my Bobby Poff strap -- but buyer beware.
It took a year and a half for delivery and he requires full payment up front. |
