George called me at work ranting that his brand new Dell computer has a virus. I had to leave work and drive over to his place to calm the boy down. Not so....What george had on his computer was a tracking cookie owned by yahoo.
I must admit it was a stubborn little rascal. It infects all computers that use yahoo. But computers made by "Dell" Emachines, and a few others are really susceptible to this little bugger.
You can't access ebay {heaven forbid} or yahoo mail or yahoo game sites. I did some researching, while trying to calm georgie down .And found a quick and free removal tool.
It's called "Hijack This". After following the instructions, it was quick and easy. I had it off his puter in 5 minutes. Here is the link just in case anyone has this problem in the future.

Update:
I gave george his nerve medication, and he is resting quietly. All is well ..... |

Yieldmanager.com is an ad agency owned by Yahoo. They are using this to try to earn commissions from redirections to paid ads and also from Google ad results.
If you follow the directions in the URL in the previous post, or run a scan with the most current Spybot definitions, the ad.yieldmanager.com ads should disappear. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Hi Wiz,
Yes, of course i tried george's SpyBot first, then his McAfee. Spybot won't touch it, his McAfee didn't either. You have to go in and take the file out manually, this is what the program "Hijack This" did. It list all hidden cookies in the register, then lets you remove the bad file. Spybot, will not allow you to do this.
Incidently, i want to stress to our forum friends not to have over, one or two at the most, virus programs on your computer at the same time. Our friend george had four on his computer. I removed them all except his Spybot, and McAfee.
But again, Spybot, or any of george's other virus programs would not detect, or remove this little follow. Cass |
