I ran into a problem recently. after many successful times sending an attachment in an email, I am now blocked everytime.
I have the mp3 patch encoder that was sent to me a while ago. the sender had purchased it from Steinberg years ago and it has since been discontinued. the encoder still works.
I ran out of mp3 ability and this gentleman sent it the encoder patch to me. I installed it and it works great.
since that time many others have run out of mp3 ability. reading the posts I offered to pass along the patch. I have done this successfully.
last evening, when sending the patch to another person my email kept coming back undeliverable 'failure' 'illegal attachment detected'.
I am stymied. any ideas and solutions.?

Most likely it was detected as "illegal" by the persons ISP's SPAM filtering. See if that person has an alternate e-mail address that you can send it to (such as a hotmail or yahoo address) or if they can get it unblocked by their ISP. Some ISP's still have file size limitations and depending on how large the file was that could also be an issue.

I used to run into a filtering problem by one ISP in Texas that was blocking all RoadRunner e-mail at one time. Anything I sent to a friend was rejected by his ISP. He finally switched ISP's and no more problems.

Thanks Jack. i agree, I believe it is the ISP. I have sent this file ( compressed and zipped) to others with typical e addresses without problem.
I will contact this new person and see if we can get this cleared.

thanks .

Randy;
See if you can send it inside a Zip file. That may get it through his ISP's spam blockers. Or, it could be your ISP blocking outgoing attachments...

Find out which is the case.

I did create a zip file. no go. I had done that in the past with success, but not with a gmail ISP.

Rename the zip file to something such as Test or Jim, etc rather than the actual file name. That may get it past them.
