I am thinking of buying a guitar sythesizer. I played around on a roland GR-33 and a midi equiped telecaster a few years ago and really liked it. Really cool stuff. I was wandering what wouuld be the best one to get.
Of course this is not for the steel guitar but I am going to use it for my telecaster.
Thanks

Ben,
I use a GR-33 and am pleased with it. My passion for the last 18 months or so, though, has been a GI-20 triggering softsynths. The list of softsynths I am currently using is on my gear page at www.lorenclaypool.com. Many of the synths are free and readily available for download at www.dontcrack.com.
The real fun begins when using plug-in effects with a softsynth, creating a more guitar-centric approach, if you will. For example, take a fairly basic waveform, run it through a good distortion plug-in, add a little filtering or modulation, and you've got a complex waveform coming out the back end.
The GI-20 work well for what I'm doing. Almost all of the guitar synth work on "One Feather Shy" was recorded via the GI-20. _________________ Loren Claypool

Ben, from my experience(I used to have a Roland GR-1 and the GK2A pick-up) the pickup doesn't fit on a tele very good. It fits better on a strat. On the tele, you have to mount it a little sideways and it just doesn't work very good. Fender made a mexican strat that had it mounted in it from the factory but you couldn't get it with the maple neck. I still had fun with it for awhile but ended up selling it to pay for lawyers! (Divorce) Hope this helps you some. Ray _________________ Ray Qualls
