A friend of mine wants $10 for the speaker. It needs to be reconed. Can I get a recone? How many watts will it handle? Will it handle a Princeton Reverb?
Edited to add that my PR is modded. 20 watts. 12" speaker.

Harvey Gerst, famous JBL speaker designer, says that the D123 is the BEST sounding guitar speaker JBL ever made. Most out there are 16 ohm, but 8 ohm models exist. Search around with the bigger JBL recone services. You may find a cone kit, hopefully in 8 ohms. Some of them, I believe, were sold as woofers for home speakers and may not have had the metal dome. But you could always have the metal dome put on since that's a separate piece.

Surely that empty basket is worth $10. Good, working, used D123's tend to sell for over $100.

Keep us posted.

Here's a link to Orange County speaker repair. They apparently have the original cones, but they want nearly $300 to do it. They also have aftermarket cones too for $125.

Contact Ted Weber at Webervst and see what he's got.

John, in JBLs 1955 catalog, they are rated at 20 watts.
Im assuming that means programmed music.
I was under the impression that there wasn't a kit out there?.
It would appear I was wrong.
I would do as Brad suggests, and try Weber.
They sold me a 4 Ohm non F gap paper too the edge kit for a D130.
The Kit was rated for 60 watts, which is about 40 watts more than a original one.
After it finally broke in it sounded excellent.
Personally I would be dubious of deadstock pulp, and after market parts.
However if Weber was to do a D123 kit, especially with greater power handling.
I would be on ebay buying frames.

Thanks for the input guys! I checked "completed auction" on the bay. Seems they're goin' for about $60 each. Sooooo,,, reconing one for $95 seems nonsensical. I was thinking of trying it in my modded Princeton Reverb which is 20 watts. I've got a very high wattage Celestion 12" in it now, and thought the JBL might be a better choice. Thanks again!
