Just sharing what I think is a surprisingly good overdrive pedal. The new Danelectro Cool Cat CTO-1 "Transparent Overdrive". It's one of the few overdrives that I've been happy with and I've spent a ton of time at a local shop that carries just about every pedal imaginable, boutique and common.
It's $39, has true bypass and a sturdy metal case. I think it sounds great at every setting. It beats out my Real Tube Tube Driver that I finally got sounding usable by changing the stock tube to a 12AU7. |

boost pedal(sometimes Real Tube, sometimes Zoom g2)->Hilton VP with "volume" setting on max->CT0-1->Meastro EP-4 Echoplex->Fender Deluxe Reverb |

I've been trying out boutique gear for many months now and this pedal has made me aware that I might have been foolish to ignore some of the more common pedals out there.
My Hilton was $280ish, Echoplex = $375, upgraded amp = $1000................dirt = $39.
Another cheap but great pedal that I'll probably never sell is the Ibanez DE-7 delay set to "echo" mode.

I use a couple of different steels for my "affected" chain. Both are Fouke Industrial steels. The 6-string has a Kent Armstrong p90 and the 8-string (26" Stringmaster specs) has Lollar Stringmaster pickups. I've also own an Artisan cheapie and have previously owned a Guyatone stringmaster knockoff. |
