Here's a question for solidstate Standel experts or owners of Standels with the blue grill-cloth and the woodgrain control panels:

Does anyone know if the solidstate Standels with blue grill-clothes & woodgrain control panels have the epoxy coated modules or not???

I have a solidstate Standel with the blue grill-cloth & silver control panel that doesn't have the epoxy coated modules & it's from Dec. of 1971.

Which of the blue grill-cloth models came first, the woodgrain or silver control panels??? Any ideas of the years that they were produced???

Any help is much appreciated.

Casey

Casey, I had the wood grain, blue grill cloth twin it was a late 68, studio 24.
It had epoxy modules.
My buddy owns Pete Drakes (same model) it has been re baffled with a D130.
Its a late 69 it doesn't have the modules.
Tim Maag, Standel guru can replicate all the modules.
He told me the later modules are more stable and quality than 65-67 ones.
I would think it would be more advantages in terms of repair to have a 70/71 model.

BTW, You also see this model amp with The Emmons or ZB custom name on them.

I think the cut off for epoxied modules was early or mid 1970.

That sounds about right - mine (which Dave had for a while) appears to be a '70 and does not have the gooped modules.

I had one of the blue grill cloth and wood grained Standels in about 1969 or '70. It was the twin 12" speaker model. I think the module models had the black grating on the front instead of a grill cloth.........JH in Va.

I forgot to mention my grill cloth IS the blue sparkle as well, with the faux-woodgrain front panel. Really nice sounding for a solid state amp (this is from a die-had tube guy who owns TWO other SS amps - a Fender GDec practice tool...and a Pignose!)

Has anyone ever found a source for replacement grillcloth for the blue sparkle Standels? That's the one cosmetic challenge I have - a small tear that is too "open" to do a decent sew-up job on.
