I'm posting this in two forum sections, hope this is O.K. to inform all my friends that I may be down for awhile.
I am absolutely frustrated with windows vista that I'm almost ready to give up on computers completely.
I have my computer for basically 3 things.
The forum, steel radio.com, and my beloved ISGCC chatroom.
I've ried everything I can think of to solve my problen,so far no luck. I'm down
to my last resort. The problem is that for the past few months, my TC Web plug-in for the chatroom will stop working every couple of days and I cannot get in the chatroom at all. I've been able to restore to a period before the problem would start, but I've just about run out of restore points. My last option seems to be a complete system recovery and restore everything to when I bought the computer.
I've checked all downloads, updates, used all my spyware programs,
and everything else I can think of. Nothing seems to work. It keeps coming back.
It only affects the chatroom plug-in.
So, probably Sat. or Sun. morning I plan a Complete restore of my system. (Windows vista home basic has this option)
It may take me a while to accomplish this as I've never tried this before. I am posting this to inform my buddies that I may be down for awhile. Your understanding of this posting is appreciated. I love you all.

I notice you have Vista "Home Basic" - a version that should have never been offered. Home Premium is the version for consumers.

Also, since you have Home Basic, what hardware do you have? With that version of Vista it suggests you have a basic "entry level" PC which could mean the hardware barely supports Vista and that could be one of the problems.

One big issue I see is the RAM. If you only have (probably 512MB) that amount of memory Vista will not run well. Actually even XP won't run that good on that amount of memory.

With Vista 1GB bare minimum, 2GB is better and 3GB is best.

John, can you uninstall and then reinstall the TC software? Have you tried that already? Or is it something that you download every time you join the chat room?

Unfortunately the crash reports don't tell you much unless you have the dump file that goes with it, and then only if you know what you're looking for. Essentially what you have there says "a program named webconferenceplugin.exe made a bad call to a library named ntdll.dll".

My complete shot-in-the-dark guess would be that this is software that was written before Vista came out and doesn't run well on it. But if you were running fine without problems and then something happened, who knows...bad config file or registry key maybe, which is why I'd say uninstall and reinstall TC if you can.

On this page
http://www.talkingcommunities.com/support.html
they seem to hint at their program making use of IE's cache...so I'd try that too (clearing the cache is in no way dangerous, you have absolutely nothing to lose.)

John,
Thanks for your kind suggestions.
I've tried them all but with no success.
The web conference plug-in is downloaded one time only.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing numerous time. No luck.
I used to be able to do a restore and it would work for a day and a half,
then the plugin would stop working again. I have finally run out of restore points that will bring it back.
I guess my next option will be to upgrade and have an experienced tech
do the work as I'm just not confident enough in myself
to try it. Thanks for your input.
It was very much appreciated.

John, this might be overkill, but I'd also try creating a new user profile, and visiting the chat room (and running the TC program) as the new user.

In Vista you do this by going to Control Panel and opening the Accounts and Family Safety panel.

There are some instructions here:
http://familyinternet.about.com/od/projects/ss/adduservista.htm

When you have the choice of Administrator or Limited account, go with administrator.

Hmm. Sorry that didn't work for you. Reinstalling the OS isn't a big deal, though. Just make sure you back up everything. Don't forget about emails, bookmarks, and program settings.
