Linkon pedal steels

The guitar I use is a Linkon II D10. They are made in Canada. The one I use is probably a late 70's or early 80's model. It plays ok and sounds good. Does anyone else on this forum use one?

I've heard Wayne play several times at different venues. His travel guitar is a Linkon S10 and it sounds awesome. He is also a very talented musician in his own right.

The Linkon is a fine guitar no doubt. It has much of the old style MSA technology in it according to what Wayne Link told me. I can't praise the old MSA steels enough. Built like a tank and, sadly, weighed as much. My D10 Classic was 89 lbs in the case.
Glen, how much does your Linkon weigh in the case? Maybe lighter now with the flight cases and whatnot.

The other builder that builds quality steels here in Canada is Eddie Fulawka of Penetangueshene, Ontario.
The ones who buy Eddie's steels can't say enough good about them. A love affair between man and machine is started and lasts forever.
Pro pickers here love them: Bob Lucier plays one, as well as Ollie Strong.
Our forum buddy, Bruce Snow, plays a SD 10 Fulawka as well. When he coupled this fine guitar with a Nashville 112, it puts out some heavenly sounds.

I sure miss the Winnipeg Show that Wayne used to put on. BTW, Wayne is one of the few steelers I personaly know that don't use finger picks. It certainly doesn't effect his tone or playing.

I have a Linkon D10 which I picked up when living in Toronto. I believe it is from around 1990. Its a great sounding guitar, but it does weigh a lot... I do have some trouble with lowers not returning correctly, but I think its due to the changer being a bit worn out. Here a couple of pics...

The first pedal steel I ever played was a Linkon at a jam session in Winnipeg in the late 1970s. It sure sounded good to me. Not long after, Mr. Link set up my first steel for me, an MSA Sidekick. I never heard him play, though. Ronnie Halderson was the only steel player I remember seeing then.

The guitar weighs 55 lbs and the case weighs 30 lbs (according to my bathroom scale). It's quite sickening to carry with one arm, especially up the stairs where I live! That's why I'm considering using a small dolly....or maybe take off the c6 neck.

That's a gorgeous Linkon you got there, Trevor! I wish mine looked that good. Mine has a blond mahogany grain formica covering with black bordering...rather plain looking. I also like that Fulawka.

At one time I had a S10 Linkon Duke. Nice sounding and looking guitar and a better man that Wayne you'll never find. Wish his conventions were still going. Terry

Jerry Eilander in Tasmania plays a green Linkon D10. He gets a very nice tone out of it - helps if you are a good picker like him, I suppose.

I've been in touch with Wayne and Joan Link, and you couldn't meet nicer people. I ordered a Link II pedal from them.... nice smooth pedal.

I have known Wayne for 27 years and he is the one of the best you could ever meet!
I own one of his Linkon 11 pedal steel's and have seen many over the years which are great guitars,I also bought 2 of Wayne's volume pedals and swear by them.

Canada is very lucky to have Wayne and Joan and they are very much appreciated.

Hi Glen ..Welcome to the forum. There is so much info and talent on here..sure helps me out a lot. Sounds like you have a great steel, and wayne is very helpful. I had a chance to play with wayne a few months ago. We had a great time. Wayne was saying he planned on putting on a steel convention in spring. I hope he does. I never made it to the Winnipeg show but I sure would have liked to. I believe it would have been about the closest show to go to from where I live in Minnesota.

Thanks for the welcome, Andy...I am really enjoying this forum...a great wealth of information here. As a beginner, I find the PS a bit intimidating and mind boggling, but I find this forum quite encouraging. I would love to come out to that convention if it happens.

Glen, I don't know how far you live from Medicine Hat, but Billy Jones lives there and is a wealth of information and always has time to help. He would also make the annual trip to Winnipeg when Wayne held the Convention. Check out this website:

Hi, George...I live in Lethbridge, which is pretty close to Medicine Hat. I think I'll look up Billy Jones. Maybe I can go with him to Winnipeg and split the fuel costs. Thanks for the info.

Trevor's Linkon shows a tip of the hat to ShoBud in its external design.
