Where in the cone does one drill a hole to feed the wire through for an under saddle mounted pickup?
This would be on a spider bridge guitar.

What brand of pickup are you installing? They usually come with instructions on where to drill, at least the ones I've seen do.
Here is the page for Schatten Design pickups with a link to their pickup installation instructions in PDF format. This should apply for other types of pickups as well.

Thanks Brad - its more of a generic question as to the location of a hole for undersaddle pickups like the Fishman transducer.

The links you provided are for a pickup that mounts on the underside of the cone so there is no need to drill a hole. The undersaddle type pickup I'm referring to would be on the inside of the cone. Therefore you'd have to drill a hole somewhere in the cone to get the wire out to the output jack.

My Rayco came with a Schertler Basik, and the wire runs through a hole just outside the lip of the cone. It does not go through the cone, and I suspect that going through the cone anywhere would cause no end of rattles.

Lynn - you're right.

I just found this document which states the same alternative wire path.

Greg, I just noticed your post to the Fishman PDF as I was writing this one. But, here goes anyway. Beard Guitars has a video on YouTube that shows the installation of their undersaddle reso pickup step-by-step.

HTH.
