I'm told a lot of times, "I want to buy your tape". Or "I bought your last tape". I try hard to not correct them and say "C D". But I can't blame them, It wasn't that long ago I had "Tapes For Sale".
I still say "My newest record" because if you RECORD a song, it is pretty much the same whether you put it on Vinyl, Wax, Plastic, or Tape,( Reel to Reel, Cassett, Four Track, Eight Track or whatever). And I still say ALBUM because if it is a collection of tunes or photos, it can be put into an album. Funny how much music terminology, and equipment has evolved in just the last ten years. I can't even hook up some of the new P.A. sets. Remember the days of 1/4 inch (guitar) plugs on the mikes, no monitors, no battery powered tuners. I'm not complaining, just commenting. Of course I realize I might be one of the oldest guys on the forum... What is an IPOD? (Just kidding , I don't want to know.) |

Charles, I remember all them things. And were really happy when Mom canned peaches and pears ( they were packed with tissue paper, much softer than Wards or Sears ). Does that mean I'm old |

Well, Charles, we do have some things in common. I do love those biscuits and 'lasses, and hound-dog guitar.
BTW, I think the term "album" came from the old 78 days. You could only get one song per side on a 78. So if there were more than two songs, they were put on several 78s in a real hardcover album that contained several sleeves. When they came out with LPs that could hold all the songs on one record, they kept the old term for a collection of songs. |

Those Sears and Roebuck cat.were retired to the little house out back ONLY when the NEW one arrived.Ordered my second guitar[my first was a ten dollar Stella]in 49.Was the most expensive one they had,A sunburst jumbo Silvertone flat top.it was 29,95,believe it or not it was a quality guitar,By the way I picked a LOT of cotton to pay for it.Over the years I owned dozens of HIGH DOLLAR guitars, but none were as special as that one.DYKBC. _________________ Hard headed, opinionated old geezer. A LOT of that old "Sears and Rareback" stuff was made by some good people. I know that Winchester AND Remington made guns for 'em, Elgin made some pocketwatches, and some big names made musical instruments for 'em, too. Good musical instruments. |

A record is a material product of an event.
Record still fits for me. Album as well.
It just sounds cooler than 'my CD.' Everybody has a CD! I want a record deal~
Here's an old term my mother told me the other day:
a 'pickardy ending' is where you play a whole song in a minor mode and end with a major chord.
Pretty old, I think. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

Vince Gill, last month in concert, referred to his latest release as a "record" even though it was obviously released in CD format. |

And I'll bet that Cab Calloway never referred to his "latest project." |

. . . and for writing, well, there's nothing like the quill. Nothing since can compare. |
