When the big mess of snow was dumped on Calgary it looked pretty bad for Wally Garrioch and I, heading for Medicine Hat, but Wally said let's wait 15 minutes then head out. We had an almost perfect trip home and it only took us the usual 12 hours. That's Canadian weather for you.
I had an absolutely terrific time. I got to play beside the great Joe Delaronde, Don Walters and Ralph Donahue. I got to meet with my best buddies but felt a little sad when Sir George and Dean had to leave so soon. Jerry and all the guys that came up from the south were just terrific and our hosts, Wayne and Joan Link, couldn't have been more gracious. Wayne and Lori Brown added a lot more life to the FAB FIVE than we normally display and The Super Pickers back up band was definitely unbeatable.
Donny's little Evans Amp that he just purchased from brother Al Brisco was outstanding.
What I'm trying to say is that if I couldn't play another note on my steel, I would attend this show just for the love and comradery that was displayed this past weekend.
Thank you all for your many compliments and for being my friends.

Here's a photo of Billy Jones from this past weekend.
I'd like to say "hello and thanks for all the kind words" to the friends, new and old, I met at this show.
There's now a picture at my Web Page's Photo Album of me performing at this show.
Thanks again!

Hey, Sir George.. After I got home, I felt older than that. It was like being thrown through a screen door and run down by a truck. My wife wants me to save that picture. She says that it's proof that she shouldn't let me out of the yard. I had a good time Joey. I wish we had taken the time to bend each others ear a little more. I miss a lot of things we used to do in Hamilton but, like you said, they're not there anymore. It was the same in Vegas when we played the Dunes. It's gone too. Oh well, I guess that every day above ground is a good day.

For people who attended the show, I'm looking for pics of this years show. I'm puting together a photo scrapbook to give to the Links so people can look though at next years show. I'm printing the pics in full page format. So far they look great. I'm using Kodak photo paper which produces sharp images. Sure gobbles the ink.
I have a lot of pics, but maybe someone might have some I missed, like a pic of Joan, or Joan & Wayne together. Wayne Brown and his better half, the vendors, audience, girls at the door, Billy Jones on the John.(ooops! ) etc.etc, The gang from Minnisota, or anywhere. Please email me. I am more than willing to share mine with you.
Don Wallters, I'll be sending you pics for the net. I'm editing them as I work on the scrapbook.
Joe
Thanks guys gals.

Seems I always get the jitters when playing at the show. This year Billy Jones shared the stage with me. What pleasure. As well as being a fabulous picker, he is a caring person. His presence on the stage made me feel comfortable.
My wife, Lu, met Billy Jones, Dean Neeley, Don Edwards, & Sir George Mclellan last year outside their motor hotel. It was just a short visit which lasted for only a few minutes. Meeting these gentlemen left a pleasant impression with her.
In May last year she took ill, and was hospitalized for 2 months. She has slowly recovered, but for most of the time she used a wheelchair to get around. This year she was bound and determined to see "the boys" as she most effectionately calls them. With that in mind she started walking, using furniture and anything to hold on to for balance.
Although she never got a chance to meet all the "boys", she did get the opportunity to talk to Billy Jones, and get a kiss hello. This made her day!
Home Care comes over every morning to tend to her needs and setup the TV for "BoB" (The Price Is Right). On our hallway wall I hung a big picture of Billy Jones.
"You see that man? He's a famous steel guitar player, and he's our personal friend." She told this to all the Home Care Workers and anyone else who visits.
"He has travelled all over the world playing his steel guitar, and has played in Vegas with most of the BIG names. He played steel guitar for King Ganam on TV for years. I call him Cuddles". Then she will continue to talk about the other "Boys".
After we kissed good night last night, she looked at me and asked, "When is the show next year? Will the "Boys" be there?". I said, "In April and I'm sure they will, but only if God allows them to."
We might think the steel guitar shows are just for us steelers. Wrong!
Looking forward to next year. Oh! And by the way, Lu is now walking with the use of her cane, and this has happened just since the show. Can't keep track of her. She says, "No chair next year"
