Coincidentally, I was listening to his excellent album, "It's a Hard Life," this morning while at the gym. I think this is his current web site, although it would probably be worth confirming via email if you plan to order a CD (I thought he had recently moved from Las Vegas to Texas).

Buzz will tell you that he is a guitar player that happens to play steel. The guy approaches a song from a totally different direction than most people. Great player and arranger.
Also a really great guy.

buzz is so cool, not only a great player but a great guy, this month in vintage guitar redd voelkart realeased a new cd giving buzz lots of credit for making the album come to life and also making him feel like a kid again.

Right on.Buzz is a great picker and a fun guy.This has been many years ago i was with a band playing in a town at the foot hills of Yellowstone in Mt.,Forget the name.Don't recall where he was playing but he got off before we did and he would bring his guitar and sit in wih us most every night.
He has a wonderful sense of humor.
Some time later i was playing in Billings and Buzz's wife would come set in with us.She was a great singer and think she played bassb but don't remamber for sure.
Another friend of ours was Harley Brendal who lived in Billings.Harley was also a very advancd steel player who we lost to cancer a few years back.
Any one remember Harley?

Buzz is one of the best out there. His rendition of "Pink Panther" is outstanding. There is a nice article on Buzz in one of the now defunct steel guitar magazines. Jody.

I remember Harley well. We were good friends for many years. His passing was a great sadness and loss to us.
He was a super fine player that IMHO, never recieved the recognition he deserved...

I get to play rhythm for him every Sunday night at the Continental Club in Austin Texas.
Yes, he's a great guy and an amazing steel player, guitar, piano . . .
he says he don't sing tho.

Well Rick you have to remember Harley never wanted to go pro.He did one time when he was young.Albuquerque was where I met him for the first time.I replaced him in the band he was with.He quit,went back to Billings and took up welding.Tracy

Buzz Evans is my favorite modern jazz steeler. Absolutely amazing. What everybody else strives for with great difficulty is simply second nature for Buzz.

For jazz standard ballads, nobody beats Bill Stafford. Tone to die for.

I never heard of Buzz until the two threads here on him recently. His playing gives me the urge to buy a pedal guitar (must resist). You might say he gives me G.A.S.

Hey Edward,
Hearing Buzz play makes me want to pack up my steels and six string gutars and put them away.

The guy is multi-talented for sure and a real pleasure to listen to. Yes, he can play jazz, but listen to him on some Ray Price tunes.....hard core country steel guitar. I think the guy is at home with any style of music, he is just that good.
Wouldn't you like to see him and Joe Wright on the same stage???

Buzz is a real musician. By that I mean he is obviously completely involved in what he is doing and that it gives him great pleasure. He really loves what he's doing. That's the key to it all. I'd love to see him live on any stage either alone or with anybody else. Whatever!!

If you think he can play steel. just listen to him on his 6 string which just happens to be a vintage Les Paul. He also plays steel through an Evans RE 200. amp with a 10 inch speaker.

His steel is a 10 X 10 all polished. The finish actually changes color as the light on stage change with the sparkles from the knee levers and pedals. It a real show just to see him play.

I saw him in Las Vegas one weekend and went back the next weekend for another listen.

Buzz plays a great version of "San Antonio Rose" on the steel and he plays a great version of "Yesterday" by the Beatles on guitar. He plays a Mullen steel.

When I moved to Vegas 4 years ago, I went into a local music store and asked, who is the best steel player in Vegas?...he replied, Buzz Evans, here's his number. I called Buzz and introduced myself, and was invited to a club on the N side to hear him play. I wound up sitting in and playing guitar with him that night. Over the next 3 years Buzz and I became good friends, and played together many times. Before leaving Vegas for Austin about a year ago, he played a house job duo about 5 miles from my home. I spent many a night watching and filming him. Buzz plays with 3 fingerpicks, plays a Mullen RP through a Digitech processor, and into an Evans amp with a tube front-end. Buzz has been friends with Del Mullen since the beginning, and I understand a new G2 will be in his hands before long. He is without a doubt, one of the finest and most versatile players on this planet...Buzz doesn't subscribe to the Forum, but I'm sure he'd be glad to hear you were asking about him...I will be sure and let him know....Mickey

A one time member of this Forum and Steel Player,,
Bill Nauman used to play bass with Buzz for a time.
In Vegas. He sung his praises all the time.

Bill disapeared from the Forum a few years back.
Anyone know what became of him? Great guy and fine
steel player also.
