My good friend Paddy Long will probably see this and make comment.
Ivan Posa is also a Kiwi steeler.
Both guys are top quality.

Hi Steve - what part of the country are you intending to settle in ?? There's a few steel players here but only a handful probably playing out much .. I live in Christchurch in the South Island and play fairly regularly with a couple of bands, plus sessions and the odd TV gig. Not sure what the scene in Auckland is like.

Hi Paddy. No idea exactly where yet. We're in the beginning idea stage. It's good to hear there's a few players though. I hear it's not easy to get permanent residency. We'll doing some research and gathering info. Another option in our heads is south Ecuador. A good bang for the buck but seems like a real weird place to have a steel guitar. javascript:emoticon('Confused')

Paddy --

I did a 2-week tour in New Zealand in Spring of 1980 with Freddy Fender. We also backed up Susan Raye ("L.A. International Airport") and a local artist named Eddie Loh (if I remember correctly). I had one of the best times of my life down there. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and your country was absolutely beautiful. The promoter Dennis Brown took me up in his private plane to really get a good look at the amazing scenery -- mind-blowing. And, of course, it didn't hurt that Miss New Zealand was on the tour with us! I even got a write-up in the New Zealand Pedal Steel Guitar Association newsletter -- I assume this was only a few guys but it made me feel good. Smile

I've always wanted to make it back there! Boo

Hi Boo - I remember that tour - I worked with Freddy on a number of occasions myself since then ..Eddie Low is a regular here as well (he lives in Sydney these days), in fact worked with him last month on a local concert.

Dennis hasn't offered me any rides in his plane though - you must have been really spoilt ha !!! Very Happy Glad you enjoyed yourself mate, we do have a great country. Hope you can make it back again some time.
