Adair,

Welcome on board!

Adair is not only a great player, but also a great teacher. I use to spend long Saturday afternoons with Adair working through songs at Adair's house. Now Adair is my distance learning teacher.

I highly recommend watching this video to see Adair in action on stage backing a great artist Leandro.

Hello Adair

Post by Steve Davis »

I'm new to this forum, but started steel playing in the 60's. I had been in Ecuador and found Brazilian music to my liking and switched to violão. I met Paulinho Nogueira twice, he became my main influence. I went with him to Ubatuba for a Caipira guitar festival once. I found your music here last week and love your version of Wave. Please post a video if you can.

Thank you Steve,
I have plans to make a video playing my version of Wave (Tom Jobin).
I'm trying to get a free time for that.

Tell Us about Steelin' In Brazil

Post by Steve Davis »

Adair,

Could you tell us a little about your introduction of steel guitar into your country's music. On your site the sertanejo music of Zeze di Camargo & Luciano works perfectly with steel. Do groups travel with steel players as in the US for their live shows? How much other Brazilian music - chôrinho, baião, bossa, etc has been introduced to PSG? You are truly a pioneer and innovator. Kudos!

Have many bossa classics been performed with PSG? Have you experimented with other tunings? Sorry for so many questions.

Hello Steve...

It took a while for the PSG to be accepted in Brazilian music, even though Sertaneja music, such as the music of Zezé Di Camargo & Luciano, to name a few, is almost identical or very close to American Country music. Brazilian artists avoid the PSG a little due to being unfamiliar with it, even though they hear it in the songs of Alan Jackson and George Strait. There is also the factor of the budget of recording labels.

In 1982, I decided to record for an artist free of charge, with the only intention of introducing the instrument, which I did in my own private studio. It took a while; however, soon all of the Brazilian artists started accepting the PSG.

Leonardo is a unique and famous Brazilian artist who has PSG on stage; it is with him that I work. He is very accommodating and allows me to complete my session work when our schedules conflict.

In regards to Brazilian styles of music such as, Baião, Chorinho, Bossa Nova, etc, I am doing the same thing as I did in 1982 and showing the possibilities to all who will listen. The producers here in Brazil are very closed to new ideas. That being said, after I recorded Wave, things have started to change for the better.

I have done session work on a Brazilian Bossa Nova CD that was released in Germany and sung in Spanish. My demo project “Wave” is being worked in my spare time. The project is “Steel in Bossa – The Music of Tom Jobim”

In regards to tunings, I work in Nashville E9th and Texas C6th with standard changes.

Take Care...
