Tried this out over the last few days; though perhaps not a new idea, it seems worth the sharing.

A knee lever bell crank mount whose bushing hole had enlarged a bit from wear was allowing shaft shift in the lever's operation and noisy throws. A turn or two of teflon tape on the hex shaft end snugged up the shaft, smoothed the throw, and eliminated the noise (It's now more a feel than a click).

It falls short of Coop's excellent replacement parts (for which the fund is growing at present), but for the nonce, a few minutes of delicate-wrapping-for-neatness's-sake brings on a no-mess ('dry lube'), quiet fix!

Try it out!
