Gibson just sent out an email detailing a new dobro they have to offer. It's a Dobro Model 27 in Bubinga. Retail price is $35,985. Yes, that's right, $36,000. Only 15 will be made and yes, Virginia, a hard shell case is included.

Its nice, but not mega bucks nice.
Non figured bubinga is easy to find and reasonably priced. Nothing special about a Corian nut and although I'm a Grover fan, thats a $40 set of tuners on there. Top it off with a decal over mop logo, for that kind of coin I'd want engraved, even cnc engraved would be fine.

What's with the $30,000 dollar mark-up?

There must be a buried treasure in there somewhere.

Yep - look closely at the specs:

Body

- Solid Bubinga top, back, and sides with ivoroid binding (front and back)
- Dual screened soundholes
- Body depth 3.6"
- Parallelogram sound well
- Stuffed with $33,000 in cash

Very Happy

No seriously, overpriced is an understatement. Who would buy this?!

Maybe their $40,000 Chet model a few years back was so successful that they decided to try it with the Dobro Exclamation

Perhaps it's only a $36 dobro....the rest is what the divorce will cost you after she finds out you actually bought it.

Maybe it was a typo.

I just went to the page and it says... "The retail price is $4,443, and each one comes with a custom-made formfitting hardshell case and certificate of authenticity."

That appears to be the case. Thanks, Danny!

I've modified the title of this discussion to reflect that the original price was a typo.

I'm not sure what's funnier, the typo or the fact that we believed it! Rolling Eyes

Perhaps it's an intentional typo to make us think the actual price of $4,443 is reasonable.

I would rather have 4,5, maybe 6 OMI Dobros

Instead of one Gibson dobro

They would still be worth the same a year later also!

Actually Gibson is pretty smart... They know the used 27's are going for big bucks... They also know that there's 15 collectors that will buy them and try to turn them for a profit.... This will be interesting... in this economy! Crying or Very sad

I also agree with Joey Ace:
