Topic: What should this National steel & amp sell for? |

A friend of mine is getting rid of some stuff and has an old National Lap Steel and a small National amp. The steel looks like it may be a student model as it only has a 19" scale. However, I went over to his house and took these pictures. The steel and amp are both in excellent working condition and very good cosmetic condition except the amp is a little dirty from age but it works fine with no extra noises or buzzes. We'd like to find out what a good starting point might be to sell them as a set......Here's some shots of both of them...JH in Va.

I'd say $500 for the pair would be fair.
Could be found cheaper (if you can find them, especially together), and could also go for more. |

probably more collectable than a player..being a national/dobro.
i love the amp...very clean.

| Those National/Supro/Valco amps bring fairly high bids on Ebay. Maybe collectors items, but they are nice sounding amps. The guitar looks older than many on Ebay. |

A 19" scale?
How common/uncommon was that?
Some of my cheapy imports are 20.75" scale, and that seems too short to me.

John, that is really short. I tuned the strings that were on it to open D to test it out and it really feels like a kids toy as it's very small, however, it really sounds good and the amp is killer. The amp has no tone control or the steel either for that matter, only volume control(s)....JH in Va.

| The guitar is a low-end model, though it does have the much-desired string-through pickups. The amp, however, is quite a coveted piece -- that's a real find. Those are killers. |

The steel has no serial number but the one on the amp is V17428.........JH in Va.

| This guitar is actually a Short scale SUPRO SUNBEAM . Model No. 125 and was first catalogued as a student guitar around 1941/2. It sold for $15.50. It's "big sister" in the catalogue was the SUPRO IRENE. Model No 36 |
