I'm proud to say that, after reading a few threads on homemade guitars/bridges/nut, I successfully installed an aluminum angle bridge on my 8-string (the string spacing did not match the spacing of the pole pieces of my pickup).
HOWEVER, when I removed the original bridge (brass), I noticed that the ground wire from the pickup was underneath. Can I ground to the aluminum angle, or do I need to ground elsewhere? And if I need to ground elsewhere, where?
I am electronically challenged, so please assume I know nothing, if you are giving me instructions. |

I am electronically challenged also, but you can ground to the aluminum as long as it hasn't been annodized, which it probably hasn't. |

Connecting the ground to the bridge is fine and it will function the same as it did before. However, it may not be necessary. Grounding the bridge (which also grounds the strings) helps reduce hum by making YOU part of the ground circuit. If there is no reduction in hum when you touch the strings or bridge you can leave it disconnected.
With the bridge/strings grounded there is a higher risk of shock if you happen to touch something else (like a mic or different amp) that is improperly grounded.
