Les Paul Bass??

I don't know the year or any details, except it's a "Les Paul"

No, Im not trying to sell it, but maybe buy it at a public auction. Someone shoot me a good price range for it.

From what I can find out, you must used a low/high impedance transformer, or a preamp with these.

That is indeed the Les Paul recording bass. They made a guitar also. Low impedence pickups. For certain things they sound great. The rock players hated them becase they did not fulfill the mindless goal for them of making a Marshall amp sound like a Stihl Chainsaw.

Many of the recordings of Chet Atkins and also of Les Paul were recorded using low impedence pickups. Beautiful clear tone and you could run your guitar cable for a mile I guess and it would not be affected by the cable length.

Looks like those low-Z pickups that Les was touting. Probably need to go through some kind of transformer to an amp, if then.

I know how you feel; just what I need, another bass.

But for recording, I'd sure use it.
The signed one (too cool) went for $1600.
I think you would be able to beat that by several hundred. My '69 Precision wouldn't be worth $1600 even if it had the original sunburst finish. (Ah, the very young....)

I had a friend that sold one
without a case for 800.00. That was about
ten yrs ago.
I would guess 1200.00 would be fair if
it has good action/intonation and the neck
is ok.

My brother has had one of those basses for decades. I had it at my place for about half that time. Heavy does not begin to describe it. But it sounded good. My daughter learned to play on it.

I worked with a guy (Bobby Ray) at a club in Huntington Beach, Ca. who played one of those basses exactly like that one. Also he did have to use a transformer to play it through a regular bass amp. This would have been around 1970 so that's probably about the vintage of that bass. It was a quality instrument to say the least. I think that they can be modded by a competant guitar technician to be played without the transformer by adding something to the circuitry. Someone on the Gibson Forum could probably tell you...........JH in Va.
