Hi guys, I am a new member and I sure hope you will except me in your group. My name is Dale Bennett,I grew up in So.Calif but have lived here in OKC since 1970. I'm not a steel picker but you won't find a bigger fan than me. I'm a frustrated guitar picker turned bass picker. I picked around some of the little joints until was hired by Geroge Underwood at Georges Round up #1 which Wynn Stewart was instramental in getting for me.He and Mooney were at Georges #1 in Long Beach. Then Carl West was the first real real good steel player that I ever to came to work w/me. I got to work w/Mooney some also. Then I got to work W/Blackie Taylor where I met Al Bruno a great guitar picker. Later on Al Bruno, Jay Dee Maness, Clye Griffen,Archie Francis and me became a band together. And then In Dec of 69, Another great guitar picker which all of you probably know, Phil Baugh, we were working a place called Millers Cave around the Long Beach area, this guy called and Said Ray Price was looking for a guitar and bass picker, Phil looked at me and said I'll go if you will,so off we went. Julian Tharp was the steel man, WOW, what a picker, I stayed w/Ray about 2/12 yr. Then settled here in OKC.I ended up co owning about 4 different clubs and I still have one nite a week band.Kenny Collins Is my steel man, and a good one.Hey guys, I not just trying to drop names but I feel blessed that I have played with or been associated with such great steel players and musicians.I have a lot of storys I would like to share with you in time. Thanks guys, I look foward to talking to you. By the way, I would also like to mention that i'm so glad that I get to call Gene Jones and Kenny Davis here in OKC my friends. Take care db |

Dale, double welcome to the Forum. Share with us some of those stories that can only come from someone who has been "out there" wearing his cleanest, dirty shirt, and living on cheeseburgers for weeks on end! www.genejones.com |

Folks - It don't get much better than Dale Bennett! Dale has been a big part of the music scene in Oklahoma City for a number of years. Last year, Dale managed to get JayDee and Al Bruno to come here and pick one afternoon. Along with Byron Berline, it made a great 'West Coast' reunion.
Dale, it was good to see you in Dallas, and get to talk about the old times! |

Hi gang, thanks so much for the welcome, I do look foward to meeting as many of you as I can and seeing the ones I know again. Jay Dee, I'm still sick about not getting to see you in Dallas, that was one of the main reasons I came down. But I did have a good visit with Blackie Taylor and ole Moon. And I sure did get to hear some great steel music. What a treat. db |
