Looks like Bobby will be at the jam around 12:30 or 1:00 or so! His brother Larry is in town and will stop by a little later with his guitar for a little taste of the old "Black Brothers"
See ya there,
bob

Darn, that was fun! A small turnout, but we got to hear Bobby and Larry Black together, making their trademark twin guitar sound.
Another real treat for the few who stayed late: Bobby Black played "Hawaiian Wedding Song". Just wonderful!
Thanks for hosting, Bill. It was worth the long drive.

Bob, thanks for coming, for bringing your BIAB setup, and for helping me set up chairs afterwards for the next day's classes. Much appreciated. Thanks also to Richard Sinkler for his BIAB setup--the trading off between you two worked really well.
In addition to a lively assortment of guest listeners, steeling attendees were:
Bobby Lee
Bobby Black
Larry Black (6-string)
Larry Chung
Joe Padilla (lap steel)
John O'Neill
Richard Sinkler
Charlie Wallace
Pat Ickes
(& me)
We normally keep the jam to just steel guitarists, but who could say no to Larry Black? Special thanks to Bob Snelgrove for making the contact with Bobby (who is not online). The Black brothers' father was there, too. You could tell he loved hearing his sons' music!
It was a great time all around. Thanks to everybody for coming! I'll post when I get photos online.

Hi Bill:
Thanks again for a great jam! It was a thrill to be sitting next to Bobby Black - I took a few rides right before and after him, was I nervous?
Nahhhh.
It's so nice to look around and see other steel players SMILE! (:
Thanks to you (and Richard Sinkler, too) for all of your tireless efforts to make this happen. You sounded great, by the way - I hope I can get there soon, too!

Larry, thanks for coming. You were zipping right around me with your chops. Nice work!
Thanks again to all who were able to make it. Thanks also for the contributions to the voluntary kitty--we get the room for free and the church really appreciates the help.
Something noteworthy.... I brought a dozen donuts this time (against my own advice) and almost all of them actually got eaten!

Maple Leaf Donuts, 6473 Almaden Expressway, San Jose, CA. I gnawed on one of their apple fritters throughout the jam (it was both my breakfast and lunch--hey, healthy!). |
