Topic: New Pickup: Split it, Series/Parallel...what's best? |

| Folks: I've just installed a Duncan mini humbucker type pickup into an el-cheapo new lap steel. I can either split the coils or run it in a series/parallel configuration. I'm wondering what folks think would give me the most variety, tone-wise. Thanks, Blake |

| The best way is to try it all ways. Your ear is the deciding factor. Maybe there is room for a mini toggle switch to go from series to parallel etc. The pickups usually come with a diagram for switching etc. |

| A volume or tone pot with a push/pull switch will let you get away with drilling one less hole in your guitar, even a cheap one. I suspect with one humbucker, the best choice would be a tap to make it single-coil. |

| My suggestion is to do the series/parallel switching. The parallel mode is much like single coil mode except no single coil hum. |

i've just found that out (3 way toggle). the wiring is pretty complex, and you need a 3 way on-on-on switch which my local rat shack does not have available. i think i'll order one and go from there. thanks for the input folks!

| Steward MacDonald at www.stewmac.com has on-on-on switches for $10 ($12.53 for black). This PDF from Seymour Duncan appears to have the diagram for how to wire the on-on-on switch. |
