I signed up on itunes, and all the files I've downloaded have been mp4 format.

Is there a way to download mp3s from itunes, or is a converter the only option?

I don't use Itunes myself, but I understand they use the AIIF Format so that you can only play downloads on their equipment. What I would do is buy a lead with 3mm jacks on each end, plug it into your Ipod headphone socket, and the other end into your Laptop and record the songs on your computer in MP3 format.

believe they are m4p format, not mp4 or aiff, this is for copyright protection, can be played on any of five computers authorized with your itunes account info, or on your ipod. why do you need them as mp3s?

Chris--

I have an mp3 player, and not an ipod. When I signed up I assumed that I could download the songs onto my mp3 player, but the format is m4p, and is unplayable with anything other than itunes.

Is there a way to download mp3s from itunes, or am I out of luck with them?

TIA.

Gordy

Switch to another service like Napster or buy an iPod.

Gordy, go to the Itunes toolbar click advanced.
you should see the option to convert to MP3.
(you must highlight a song 1st to get this option active.)
depending on the version of itunes you can also go to preferences and have MP3 as your default.
not positive this will fix your problem but worth a shot...

The simplest way to remove the Apple DRM is to burn the protected songs to a CD and rip them as MP3s.
