Taught myself how to play on a Fender 400 back in the early 70's. Wound up with a Sho-Bud Pro III Custom which I still have. I haven't played in about 15 years. Found The Forum, Youtube, and The RFD channel which peaked my interest in playing again. I drug the ole Bud out of the closet, restrung in, and obtained a C6th course and am currently working on it ( I had only played E9th up till now.) I am really enjoying all the helpfull info on the forum. Keep up the good work!!!!

Yes, Jim, welcome aboard to a fine organization; I, too , started on a Fender 400; but didn't have the forum back then to teach me the ropes of steel guitar playing, and the comraderee of all these fabulous steel guitarists. Have learned more in a year and a half, then in forty years actively playing with a C/W Band [ s ]. Lots of folks with plenty of expertise here, so call out when you need an answer to anything pertaining to the steel guitar. Someone will come to your aid..Bernie :D :whoa:

Thanks for the warm welcome!!!! You are right Bernie. Any new guy wanting to learn should be grateful for the forum and all the information available now that so many of use did not have. When I first started playing I could not get a "smooth" sound. There was a steel player, I believe his name was Tommy Bolinger, who worked at a music store in Dallas. I called him up and he told me to bring my guitar down and set it up and he would listen. I did and he laughed and said, " All you need is a volume pedal!!!" I said " A volume pedal, What's that???" He sold me a DeArmond which I still use.
