Wow what a night. I left the convention in St. Louis and headed to Nashville for a couple of days to check out some music. On Monday I went to the Station Inn to see the Time Jumpers as I hadn't heard them with Paul Franklin in the steel guitar chair. I'd never heard Paul much on C6th as I was mostly familiar with his session work with various artists on E9th.

All I can say is to me he stole the show. They're a great band but Paul fell right in and does one magnificent job. We got there at 7:00 so our table was right in front about 5 feet away from the steel so I could see every note picked, floor pedal used, or knee lever depressed. I was very impressed with his right hand technique and the minimal hand movement. The notes were flying out at warp speed but his right hand was hardly moving. Paul has no wasted motion when he plays steel, everything has a purpose and he burns up either neck as well as having some of the sweetest tone on ballads I've ever heard. I got to meet him after the show and as well as being a master steelman, he's also a nice guy........

One added bonus was the appearance of the Whites and Ricky Skaggs who both did a number with the band. This is without a doubt the best show in Nashville and if you're ever there on a Monday and don't make it you're really missing something.......JH in Va.

I envy you. John Russell, to whom I teach steel to every Wednesday night tells me of the time he went there and saw the great JH, he has his own video fo the eveniing too. I really want to see this show.

Paul Franklin is my biggest influence since the start of my playing. I cant wait to get to meet Paul again. Met in at the 1999 steel guitar convention in the UK. He sat next to me in my moms car and In showed him a tape of me playing, great day that was !!!

My family and I go hear the "Time Jumpers" at the "Station Inn" on a regular basis (almost every Monday night) since we moved here. I talk to Paul often, and he is a really nice guy, just like the great "John Hughey" was. Paul is also one of the greatest players alive, as was John. I feel fortunate to have taken lessons from Paul, back in the late 70's. I still have, and cherish, 2 cassette tapes, with 3 1/2 hrs. of nothing but hot licks and scales on them, from one of my lessons with Paul, way back in the 70's. Another steel player friend of mine heard the cassette's and replied, (" Man, that was, one on one lessons, from the great "Paul Franklin" and you need to be careful with those tapes.) Needless to say, I watch the tapes closely. I only wish I could play all the stuff I've got on tape. If your passing through Nashville on Mondays, don't hesitate to stop by the Station Inn and hear the Time Jumpers. Just save me a seat.

Scott If I was you I would transfer all that on to CDs or DVDs Its not a big job and well worth the trouble. To have a tape like that break or something go wrong would be enough to make someone cry. Crying or Very sad

For all who dont know, Paul has now his video teaching course on DVD. This video is amazing, I learnt so much from it. Hey I never heard of counter points before this video !!!!!!!

I think it limited at the moment but more is on the way !!! Best spend this year for me !!!

Also he has a new "speed picking volume 3 out now"
That should be fun once I get hold of that one.

In a nut shell he a genius, quoting Knopfler from "A night in London" DVD when he introduces Paul on "The walk of life" -----> "Musical Genius!"
