Why, the Guyatone HG-56B lap steel!

The guitar available for auction on eBay looks exactly like the Artisan, Rogue, Rosetti, etc. lap steels found on eBay and other sites, but is obviously much older. I'd guess it was made some time in the 1960s if I had to hazard a guess.

I'd never seen one of these before. Very interesting...

I seem to remember seeing a Supro model of similar body shape with a slotted peghead. I can't remember what it was called. Very interesting that now we have Chinese copies of Japanese copies of American guitars!

The world is sure changing. The Chinese are copycats just like the Japanese where in the '50s & '60s. They will be a huge force to be reconded with as they begin to develope more of there own technology as the Japanese did. We are just seeing the tip of the iceberg.

I've bought and sold a few of these 1960s/70s Asian lap steels over the years. Guyatone, Lero, and other brands... all with the same hardware, same fretboard, knobs, bridge, etc. Evidently Japanese manufacturers would brand lap steels for other companies.

One dead giveaway is the volume and tone Knobs. Many of these cheapos had a distictive V and T on the knobs. You can spot them a mile away!
