Can someone with a prewar Bakelite with the 1.5" pickup measure the distance from the edge of the bridge to the center of the pickup . I am looking for the distance from the bridge to the pole pieces.

Harry, it's 1 5/8" from the bridge to the center of the pickup.

Thanks Rick. Can someone give me the same measurement on a prewar Frypan. It looks like the Frypan pickup is a bit closer to the bridge than it is on the Bakelite.

Just measured the following:
Early day Rick FRY PAN............1 1/2 inches
Sho-Bud Jerry Byrd Fry Pan........1 1/2 inches
Trot-Moore........................1 1/2 inches
These measurements were from the bridge to the center of the pick-up.

Thanks Ray but are you sure that measurement is from the saddle to the middle of the pickup? My drawings look like it should be about 1 1/4".

The ¼” difference between the 1¼” and the 1½” Horseshoe could make a slight difference too!

From the dead center of the bobbin ... to the point where the strings "leave" the bridge ... that edge closest to the fretboard ...
It's 1.25" ... on my prewar A25 ... & my postwar bakelites ... & my Model G Deluxe (postwar Silver) ... & my Academys / Aces ...
It's 1.375" ... on my prewar bakelites (several have unslotted bridges) ... & my prewar A22 ... & my Silver Hawaiians ... & my Model 59 ... and my NSs . |

My early frypan has 1 3/8" and one of my post-war bakelites has 1 5/16", so it seems to vary somewhat.
I use 1 1/4" when I build something. The frypan castings may not be perfect, causing a variation.(?) |
