Folks,
Our next meeting will be Sunday August 24/08 at 1.PM in the clinic room at the store.
Our featured clinician will be Greg Derksen who is a great player and a great guy.
Here is a little bit about Greg:
"I got interested in playing steel after hearing Buddy Emmons on a record my brother bought,
Buddy Spicher and friends, I was about 14 or so, I got an old sho-bud baldwin single 10 about 2 years later, it was at this point something I tinkered with on the side from regular guitar playing,
Later on My cousin , told me about this awesome steel playing on Dire Strait's "On every street" and found out it was a guy by the name of Paul Franklin, the playing was perfect
and fit the genre so well, it influenced me yet again, to dig in a little harder,
In 97' my wife and I moved to Calgary where I started playing with different bands, and started doing some small demo session's here and there.
A few highlights in the past years were going down to Nashville and getting to work with Sonny Garrish as our session leader, Sonny is just a monster of a player, a real pro. Jeff King
the guitar player was amazing also.
Sitting in on a private lesson with Doug Jernigan with Jeff Bradshaw, Doug's scary good at anything. From Price shuffles to jazz, the guy nails it. Just such a great guy to boot.
Playing at Jeff Bradshaw's steel show, Jeff is such a great player and the band and show is topnotch .
Being nominated for steel player of the year in 2003 CCMA. Thanx to Jeff Bradshaw , Jake Mathew's and Rick Mizzoni.
Meeting some real good players like Jeff Bradshaw, ( I used to try and learn his stuff on Ian Tyson records) John Lacy, Doug Ammon etc.
A few people I have played with... Tremblay Brothers, George Canyon, (This was before George made it big, but I did play the steel on George's "Good day to Ride" Single ) Jake Mathews, Tera Lee ."
Greg
Please let me know if you can make it so I can make arrangements for the pizza lunch. Doors open at 12 noon.
The club t-shirts are all in and anyone who hasn't picked them up yet can get them on Sunday.
Hope to see you all there.
I am thrilled to announce as well that we are now carrying the Mullen Pedal Steel Guitars and hope to have stock within the next short while.
Hope to see you all Sunday the 24th!
Take Care
Pete
