I have not put an MP3 on for a while and all that time I had the Gershwin tune Summertime in my head as my choice to feature the Leavitt extended 12 string tuning I have been experimenting with. Most of the time when you hear this song done the original Gershwin chordal tonality and mood is sometimes put on the back burner for a different presentation. I decided to try to incorporate as much of the original chord and mood ambiance that Gershwin envisioned for this incredible standard. Frighteningly slow tempo, and nothing but a little bass in the track along with the solo steel. I used a few interesting licks where the melody note is an open string and the chords glissando downward and resolve while the open string sustains. Also at the end I used some bar vibrato against the natural open string for a nice effect. The improv section starts as a chord solo with some fun with #9 chords and then settles back into the melody at the end. I limited the track to just twice through the song. I tried to capture the mystic of the song as best I could. I hope you all like it. I appreciate your listening and your continued interest in the Leavitt tuning and support of my efforts. I cannot envision this type of chordal inflected playing with no bar slants done on any other tuning. Every thing I try to find on this tuning always seems to be there. I am always pleasantly surprised by it all the time, including the elusive #11 chord that you hear right before the singer would sing “So hush pretty baby”. Click on the link and then click on download. Please let me know what you think of this.

Very impressive Bill!
Are you using a chorus effect on that?

Bill...enjoyed the deep jazz approach...it may be the first time some of those chords/voicings have been presented on steel guitar without the use of pedals. Love that gliss against the open-string melody note... Whoa!

You're building a nice collection of Leavitt gems. I hope you'll consider putting out a CD.

The creativity of your arrangements never cease to amaze and impress me. Wonderful job. You made it really sound like a slow hot day down south when everything is just moving a little slower than usual.

You sure did... I can't stop listening to it. Beautiful and haunting. The dynamics and effects really make it unreal. Great tone too.. Perfect!

Here's more unusual Gerschwin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBhVX5HZYqw
