I'm a little ashamed to admit that I had never heard of Gene Watson 'till a few weeks ago, but it's true. I saw his name mentioned here on the forum a few times--played a couple of U-Tube vids and that was all she wrote! I'm hooked! I went immediately to I-Tunes and downloaded a bunch of stuff blindly, and I can't stop listening! Real Country, Great Steel, incredible harmonies, the whole magilla!
Thank you Genewatsonfan, whoever you are!!!

Ray,
I'm just a little north-west of you in Quebec, Canada and dont apologize for not finding Gene before this....the main thing is, you found him, one of the greatest pure country voices around for sure and one of his long time steel guitar players, Tiny Olson, is a forumite and on here as well..enjoy

I was out of touch with country radio in the early 80's when I was in college-- in rural upstate NY. It was during that time that Gene had is biggest hit--Farewell Party. My brother saw to it that I caught up with Gene's music and I've been a big fan for decades and even got to meet him once several years ago.
I play him a ton these days, having moved all the vinyls and cassettes to digital... Don't just lock on to the commercial hits. Some of his newer recordings are as good as it gets. Try "From the Heart". He'll have you tapping your foot and singing along from the opening note.

Here's a nice performance. No auto-tune on the vocal here. Just pure talent. I believe it's Weldon Myrick on steel:

I have tickets for Gene on September 6th. I'm really looking forward to the show.

We had the great pleasure to have Gene and several other US acts here in Furuvik, Sweden, recently, and Gene was no doubt the big name and foremost act on that festival (take a look at http://www.furuvik.se/country-festivale ... valen.aspx)
It's amazing that his voice is still young and that he's still what we use to call note-safe (I don't know the english word for that).
Old (yes - we're physically old when we have reached 40-50 something) and very young people usually can't stay on pitch that good, but Gene can.
Furthermore he sings pure, good country. I love that!

Hi
Its my pleasure to post these videos on Youtube, Gene Watson is an incredible talent and does not get the airplay that he deserves, Tiny was a major player in much of Gene's career and I am pleased to see he still keeps in touch through this forum, and judging by the posts here still very much involved in the business.
If anyone is interested the Lloyd Green video "San Antonio Rose" is also posted on my channel,it was recorded at Wembley,London, a number of years ago, I think around 1986/87.
