Your're in our prayers
I heard about this as well from the email. I'm praying everything will turn out well for Bobbe. Today's email stated he's most likely loosing his ring finger (or part of) - they were able to use it to rebuild damage to other fingers.

Wow! What an ordeal. And what amazing surgery. But this sounds very dicey, and sounds like it will take a long time to heal, with nerve regeneration and control coming very slowly. Fortunately it is the bar hand, as I understand it. So he will eventually be back steeling. We feel for you, Bobster. Take the meds, follow the docs orders, do the rehab, and best of luck.Drew Howard wrote:After a 10 hour surgery...They were not able to save his ring finger, however they used parts and pieces of it to reconstruct his other fingers. They were able to reattach the pinky where the ring finger was so there won’t be a gap.

Bobbe, Just now seeing this post. so sorry to hear about the accident. Zoranda and I will keep you in our prayers till we hear you are completly recovered. If I can do ANYTHING AT ALL to help you just call. I will be very glad to babysit as many of your guitars as need be. No need to thank me. My own guitars can use the company. I'll keep them coraled up in the music room and let them take turns going to town with me. I know that proper care for your babies must weigh heavy upon you at a time like this. So, just put it right out of your mind and I'll watch them just like they were my own. We Love you Bobbe. Get well very soon. BTY tomorrow is Zee and I's 32nd anniversary. Best gift we can get is to hear you're gonna be okay. God Bless ya! Whip

Okay Mike.................
Mike Cass......man on the spot
Not wanting to pin you down or anything with a medical diagnosis.....
But among professionals, we CAN TALK, right?
What did it look like to you? Is it likely to be any more horrific than what our mind's eye tells us, or is there some glimmer of sunshine just over the hill?
Anything knew to share with an anxious audience?

Wow...
He's in good spirits? And joking all the way to the hospital? I gotta tell you, if I did that sort of thing to myself, I'd probably freak out and keel over right then and there.
Hang in there, Bobbe...you're a better man than me.

My prayers are with you
It's an absolute tragic thing to happen to a musician - any musician, but to a great player like this is just mind blowing. To lose any fingers is the stuff of nightmares.

Roy,
Sufficient to say that based upon the latest news available, Bobbe's current condition and the success of his surgery are well beyond what I wouldve expected, given the nature of things.
The ER doctor asked him if he thought it was a career ending accident and Bobbe replied to him that with a little bending and straightening here and there and some rehab he felt he should be able to resume playing again once its not so sensitive. From the new reports it seems that Bobbe was pretty much right on the money. Lets hold that thought.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Bobbe will be playing again. His intense desire to play will allow him to find a way around this setback and he will make beautiful once music again
Career ending.............not a chance!!
Hurry up and get well Bobbe, we all want to hear you doing your thing again.

Sheesh, I missed Drew's report. This is way more serious than I thot.
Ring finger..., that's the right hand correct?
But, if he's talking about hitting the strings again in time, then that's a relief.
I chopped off the tip of my right pointer in '95 and had it stiched back in place, and in High School stuck my thumb onto a table saw blade's top end, so I can relate to a small degree. Didn't really lose anything, just stingers, but Bobbe's got a tough time ahead.
At least he's litterally got a world full of support behind him, because time alone does not heal all wounds.
Hang in there, Bobbe!

Bobbe; The whole steel guitar community is prayin' for your speedy recovery. I almost lost my left eye to a radial arm saw 20 years ago. These things happen so fast that the damage is done before you know it (or feel it...). The microsurgery available today is fanastic compared to 25 years ago.
Look out for the medicinal leeches. They keep them in the nursing station refrigerator, right next to the lunchboxes. The jar usually has a big wrapper on it so one doesn't have to look at them. They look so cute...and they work remarkably well, just don't watch.
We're pullin' for ya. Get well soon and keep us posted on yer progress as best you can. You're in our thoughts...

Folks, I can't find anything in any of these threads about which hand was injured. Of course, any hand injury to a musician is bad news. Keep in mind, if it's his right hand, Bobbe doesn't use picks so any damage to his thumb, middle or index is going to affect his picking. If it's his left hand, remember that part of Bobbe's playing style involved extensive use of bar slants, and any damage to his fingers may affect that. However, I firmly believe that Bobbe will overcome any and all obstacles and be back playing better than ever after a while. It's just gonna take time, rehab, and practice.
Bobbe, we love you, man. Get well soon.
