Forum Catalog Consignment Sales

Post by b0b »

The Steel Guitar Forum
Consignment CD Sale Program

Often I'm asked, "How can I get my CD into the Forum catalog?" In the past, I have always decided which CDs to carry, bought a stock of them at a wholesale price, put them in the catalog and waited for orders. As a result, I now have shelves full of unsold CDs, and people are still asking "How can I get my CD into the Forum catalog?"

To meet this demand, and to make a bit of profit for the Forum, I've come up with a plan that would allow Forum members to send CDs on consignment to the Forum. I'll add them to the catalog and write checks to all of the participants every 3 months.

The Forum will pay $6.50 for each CD-R and $7.50 for each pressed CD sold. The catalog price for consignment CD-R's will be $13.00, and the price for pressed CDs will be $15.00.

You must be a Forum member to participate in this program, and your CD must contain mostly steel guitar instrumentals. To get your CD or CD-R into the forum catalog, put together a package to the Forum containing the following:

[*]Ten units of the CD or CD-R for consignment sale[*]A floppy disk containing, in plain text (Notepad) format:
[*]the advertising copy for the catalog (a short "review")[*]the song list[*]the name and address where the check will be sent[*]Your email address[*]Optional: a 192x192 JPG scan of the cover
[*]Please include your name and email address on the floppy disk label
Mail the package to the Forum's mailing address:

The Steel Guitar Forum
148 S. Cloverdale Blvd.
Cloverdale, CA 95425

At the end of each calendar quarter, you will receive a check from the Steel Guitar Forum. If stock of your CD is running low, I will send you a purchase order for more units to sell on consignment.

In the event that the consignment program is terminated, or if you wish to withdraw from the program, your unsold CDs or CD-Rs will be returned to you.

This is a way to get your music out there, and help the Forum at the same time. We don't sell a lot of CDs - this is a very small market - but every sale helps. Image

Bob,
Does it have to be on a Floppy? I could throw it on a CD a lot easier (since my Mac doesn't have a floppy port) or even just e-mail it to you including the thumbnail of the cover and the text you want.

Sure, a CD-R for the text and jpg would be fine. Mainly, I don't want it in email because my email doesn't always end up at the Forum office. I want hard media for my records.

Basil, I calculate the average shipping cost into the overall pricing strategy, so that customers don't have to think about it. Some foreign customers add a small donation to help with shipping. That is greatly appreciated!

b0b, with regard to the CD requirements, is a resophonic guitar in the family?

Would you be interested in a CD that doesn't contain steel guitar instrumentals but is a "playalong" disc especially for steel, i.e. the songs consist of rhythm section and vocals and are intended for the steel player to fill in his/her part? Thanks.

Thanks b0b for putting the Waikiki-Islanders albums in your catalog. Image
I hope the sales generate a few more dollars to help with the running of the "Forum".

We all know that Basil's a great player now, but I was shocked to hear how good he was in the 60's. These CD's are a fantastic piece of steel guitar history.

Billy Easton has just joined the Consignment club. It's a really nice CD that highlights the potential of the C6th neck:

Dale's from Iowa (USA), and Randy's from British Columbia (CANADA). There's a lot of country talent on these CDs - great listening, great steel playing!
[This message was edited by Bobby Lee on 06 February 2003 at 06:42 PM.]
