This brand new CD features 10 great songs from the COUNTRY ROCK era, covering about a ten year span from the late 60’s through the late 70’s. Most of you will recognize songs originally recorded by The Eagles, Jackson Browne, Poco, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Pure Prairie League, and Crosby / Stills & Nash. Care was taken to keep the spirit and feel of the originals, while (hopefully) offering some new and interesting approaches. The influences of Buddy Cage, Rusty Young, Sneaky Pete, and Al Perkins will be obvious. For those who are familiar with my own style, there’s plenty of that, too.
A sub-title for this CD would be “Country Rock Classics on Pedal Steel – Volume one”. If you wonder why I didn’t record a particular song, you may very well see it on the next volume in a few months.
Live studio musicians throughout with a few appropriately added touches like a phased Fender 1000, the Hal Rugg Pedabro, Telecaster with B-Bender, 12 string electric, and some acoustic lead. Appearances also by John Heinrich on sax and Charlie McCoy on the mouth organ.
Here are seven sound samples, and there are more on my site. Click on the title to listen.
** Take It Easy
** Amie
** She's No Angel
** Bad Weather
** Henry
** Ol' 55
** I Don't Need No Doctor

Hi Mike,
I've been enjoying your new CD. I especially like your Poco interpretations. I remember the tune Bad Weather from back in the days when Paul Cotton was in the Illinois Speed Press. There were many nice touches throughout your recording, from the Poco/Eagles vocal-style harmonies in the background to getting to hear Charlie McCoy again. I look forward to seeing you in St. Louis.

The second new CD will be posted on Thursday the 21st. It's a Gospel CD with a unique concept. I think it will please anyone who likes my country stuff.
Well, thanks Chuck. I appreciate your comments. The Poco songs were the bigger productions, for sure. Lots of layered textures, etc. The New Riders tunes were a lot fun to play, Just the countrier side of me breeaking through, I guess.

Mike,I don't like to brag on people to much because of the swolen head thing. But lets face the facts, your CDs are as good as it get's. And this CD is great and anyone who likes steel should get one.You are one of the most inovative musicians around. I just wish we didn't live so far apart.
Keep it up, I'm waiting for the next one.
Your buddy Bill. _________________ Custom Rittenberry SD10

I received my PreMaster copy and was not at all surprised by what I heard.
I may be considered a little prejudice, but once again my good friend Mike has made a great selection, come up with some great arrangements, and done a great job of executing the material he chose to perform.
He is a talented musician and has an ear for the way things should be done.
I thoroughly enjoyed the CD and will be playing it quite often.
Mike never surprises me, because I expect great things from him. I was not disappointed with the work he did on my CD and certainly was not disappointed with this latest effort that Mike has produced.
Get one as soon as you can and begin enjoying this array of steel guitar selections. You won't regret it.......... _________________ Ray Harrison

Hippie Music? Maybe at the time, but time has established country rock as one of the most enduring genres of the age. There is something magic about it, and it invokes a special feeling in a lot people (myself included) which is indescribable. |

OK, we're back to calling it "Classic Country Rock" now. Less offending and we can take baths more often. |
